I have launched 10+ products on Product Hunt. Most made it to top 5 & all in top 10.

Product Hunt is great for sales, early users & even SEO. But it's highly competitive.

Successful products prepare for launch months before launch day.

11 things you must do BEFORE launch šŸ§µ
1) Present your solution as a product.

Your product can be anything -- newsletter, book, report, webpage showcasing detailed analysis. Don't just think of products in the traditional sense.

Eg. Maker Mind by @anthilemoon, one of the most loved products of 2019, is a newsletter.
2) Be active on Product Hunt before launch.

ā€¢ Make efforts to participate in the community & support others. People will return the favour when you launch.

ā€¢ Plus, you get to know the nuances. Maybe PH algorithm rewards you for it too :)

Pro-Tip: Use their makers community.
3) Prepare lists of people who will support you on launch day.

All top products have users or audience outside of PH who support them on launch day.

(contd.)
Ways to prepare your lists of supporters:

ā€¢ Add your product users

ā€¢ Reach out for feedback & ask if you can email them when you launch

ā€¢ Run a campaign for giveaways & in return ask them to support you. Eg. we made free custom illustrations before launching Scale.
4) Ask your team & your supporters to create PH accounts much before launch.

ā€¢ PH won't count votes from accounts created on launch day.

ā€¢ In fact, these are considered spam & you'll get penalised if you get a lot of such votes.
5) Prepare an exclusive landing page for PH users.

ā€¢ Explain your offering upfront, very clearly.

ā€¢ Add ways to capture users permanently - subscribe CTAs, support on Twitter etc.

@stephsmithio launched her book & community on PH -- the landing page is a stellar example.
6) Make an exclusive offer, special discount or a giveaway.

PH Users love freebies & discounts. Make sure to mention it on your landing page & in your comment on the listing.
7) Make a top-notch listing.

ā€¢ Tagline - Creative but simple.

ā€¢ Thumbnail - GIF that best describes your product.

ā€¢ Video - Highlights your product features.

ā€¢ Maker's comment - Talk about your journey, product idea, your vision. People connect with personal stories.
8) Ask someone to hunt your product.

ā€¢ Increases your chances of getting featured.

ā€¢ Your hunter's audience could possibly support you.

ā€¢ Plus, you can get product feedback & some launch tips.
9) Choose your launch day & time wisely.

ā€¢ Sat, Sun, holidays - Low traffic, low competition

ā€¢ Mon, Fri - Medium traffic, medium competition

ā€¢ Tue, Wed, Thu - High traffic, high competition

(contd.)
ā€¢ Product Hunt algorithm favours products with high # of upvotes in the initial hour.

ā€¢ So launch at a time when most of your supporters are awake.
10) Prepare list of channels where you will talk about your PH launch.

Share the story behind your product & launch.

Possible channels:
ā€¢ @IndieHackers
ā€¢ @RemoteClan
ā€¢ Social Media
ā€¢ Your newsletter
11) Keep your posts for launch day ready.

Launch day will be stressful & busy -- don't expect to write actual post content on that day. Keep all content ready beforehand.

I've never been able to grasp why huge loss-making businesses are celebrated & made heroes.

So for those who want to build a profitable business, here are 8 lessons from bootstrapping my startup to $1mn revenue in 4 years šŸ§µ
1/ Don't quit your full-time job yet.

Not sure when & whether to start up?

Do this:
ā€¢ Start a blog or newsletter
ā€¢ Build a following on social media or a niche community
ā€¢ Create an MVP on the side

The 'all or nothing' strategy is needlessly high risk.
2/ Earning the first $ is the toughest, it only gets better

My journey of bootstrapping Flexiple (Revenue):
Year 1 - $0
Year 2 - $50,000
Year 3 - $400,000
Year 4 - $1 million

I write & manage 4 newsletters with 5000+ subscribers and closed down 2 others with 2000+ subscribers (due to lack of time).

15 useful & non-obvious tips on how to run & market your newsletter šŸ§µ
1/ Define a clear goal for your newsletter - what value will your subscribers get?

Examples:

ā€¢ Insightful content to make you better at remote work. One original article every Wednesday.

ā€¢ Maker Mind is your weekly dose of mindful productivity.
2/ Be yourself & write like a person would.

Nobody likes reading impersonal, automated emails with a bunch of links.

21 lessons in marketing after 4 years of growing my own startup from 0 to $1mn in revenue šŸ§µ
1) Marketing starts much before you even build the product.

You should start building your audience & letting people know about your product, much before you actually start building the product.
2) Launch day success depends on how well you prepared for months before.

For eg., if you launch on @ProductHunt, you must have:
- list of people (can be beta users) that can support you
- list of channels to talk about your launch
- content of posts & timeline to post
