1/5 We have crossed the 2100+ daily cases @chennaicorp which was the highest daily cases in first wave in 1st wk of July last yr; Covid is back in #nammachennai and spreading faster than ever; if we continue to add the cases at this rate, we will run of oxygen beds and lose lives
2/5 We cannot go on “business as usual”. Last year, we reached this number in first week of July and cases declined thereafter due to control measures implemented during lockdown in last 2 weeks of June. However in current situation, cases will continue to rise for next few days
3/5 If we step up control measures to reduce the spread now, we can hope to reduce cases at least after 10-14 days. There is lot we can do to avert crisis - 1. Avoid all gatherings and stay home unless essential to go out for work/ essential shopping 2. Go out only with mask.
4/5 3.Avoid group based activities at home/ workplaces / apartment complexes 4. Avoid meetings in closed poorly ventilated areas 5. DO NOT PLAN ANY functions/ gatherings at least for next 2-3 months 6. Work from home if you can 7. Avoid indoor dining
5/5 8. Workplaces/ markets must strictly implement distancing and masks 9. Get vaccinated if above 45 years 10. Get tested at the earliest if you have any symptoms - fever, cough, excessive fatigue, loss of smell / taste, breathlessness.

I spent 2 weeks at home as my husband got #COVID19 in the hospital while caring for his non #COVID19 chronic disease patients- I realised how this epidemic poses a unique challenge for the patients and families; many simple things we can do to make it easier for families
1/5 #COVID19 does not affect only one individual at a time but increases the risk of all family members becoming sick at the same time- health workers can provide appropriate guidance regarding testing, symptom monitoring and identification of high risk comorbid individuals
2/5 #COVID19 has an unpredictable disease course and not knowing what to expect in the days ahead specially in home isolation makes the patient and family very anxious -access to appropriate medical advice and knowledge of danger signs can make the caretaker more confident
People often ask if they should take anything specific to boost immunity; Healthy life style is the best way to build the immunity ; many simple things we all can do not only to fight #COVID19 also to prevent and control #NCD which increase the risk of severe illness and death
1. Eat 4-5 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables , protein rich diet , whole grains and moderate amount of dairy products
2. Do 150 minutes of moderate physical activity of your choice in a week - brisk walking , yoga , home work out - outdoor physical activity is safe but avoid groups and keep distance
