Signal was very jammed last night, presumably w/ so many live streams, so here's a brief dump of videos from the protests outside Brooklyn Center police station that didn't send:
Later in the standoff, as police moved into arrest curfew violators. Ppl were throwing water bottles in response to police shooting flash bangs and pepper bombs
The sheer amount of gas was overwhelming. I had a gas mask, but it must not have sealed completely, and I can still it on my face this morning. Some ppl were really taken out by the chemicals, wheezing and falling over screaming
This is what the scene looked like earlier. You can hear an officer declaring curfew and illegal assembly
I noticed the blue line flag had been taken down since I was there a few hours earlier. Would love to know the story behind that.
All of this stuff -- the gas, flashbangs, spotlights, smoke bombs, kettling -- are designed to disorient, and they work extremely well. Police were also shooting rubber/foam bullets, which hurt like hell.
Last note for now: I didn't see a lot of Nat Guard out there last night. There was a group in camo when I first arrived, but it appeared to be local police doing most of the work (riot gear obscures the uniform, but I presume most brooklyn center police?).
