I wonder if Canadians understand why First Nations with band and legal FN status are excused from the tax burden for the maintenance of the provinces and nation if they earn their wages on reserve?
There are many who believe this to be an unfair advantage for FN indigenous people.

But that’s because they don’t understand treaties, land title, property rights and citizenship in Canada.

Unless you understand those topics intimately, you’re making a judgment in ignorance.
Treaties were signed with most First Nations. Treaties allow the Crown to assume the title to all the lands in Canada, except the reserves on which various FN were assigned and restricted to live.

Over time, these reserve lands began to be known as independent nations.
As in a foreign country. Not Canada. So taxation of citizens of another nation on their land base is not normal. We don’t tax American citizens who make their wages on American soil. So why would we tax a FN person who makes their wages on FN soil? We wouldn’t and don’t.
While all FN indigenous people have Canadian citizenship, many, a growing number, do not consider themselves Canadian. Thus the adamant insistence that traditional land title be acknowledged by all settlers. It’s to remind you you’re on stolen property.
The legal assumptions & devious methods used to convince FN to sign over land title to the Crown are seriously being questioned whether it was legal or fair. Many were given no other option once their economies were destroyed, food supply was threatened & they were starving.
Forcing starving people to sign over every asset they possess with limited compensation and limitations on physical mobility, inability to influence the governance and reliant on government to provide sustenance, housing and education is not a fair deal. Not was it legal.
We do live on stolen land. The presumption by Europeans was the land known as Canada was terra nullius. Unoccupied land. Yet the treaties belie that assertion. Why sign a treaty in an unoccupied land?
It means we are heading into a confrontation about land title and compensation for stolen property.

But in the mean time, FN don’t pay taxes **IF** the income is earned on FN land. All other indigenous pay tax the same as everyone else. Including FN if wages earned off reserve.
If you don’t understand the history of Canada and the monstrous swindle by Crown negotiators to have FN turn over their land and all resources for a small cage and no taxes if they earn a wage, you should educate yourself.
Taxes are the least of the issue. The fact it seems Canada is responsible for compensation for stolen land and the untold trillions in wealth extracted and redistributed to foreign imperial powers is a much larger issue.

What do you think reconciliation is all about?
Making restitution or calculating compensation to indigenous communities. How that will look is up for debate.

Many FN want every immigrant forced to leave. Including citizens born here, but who are not FN.

Or charge annual rent to all immigrants who remain in Canada.
So not paying taxes on income earned on reserves while the alternative is to either leave their nation to earn an income or live on welfare and barely subsist isn’t a perk. That education in capitalism came in handy. Some FN can make incomes comparable to off reserve incomes.
The policy was to acknowledge the FN reserves as separate entities to Crown and private property in Canada.

Wanting to impose taxes on FN on reserve earned wages is about the most racist declaration there is. Because some FN are prospering, forcing a tax burden is absurd.
What it amounts to is a wealth tax on FN. What it translates to is FN aren’t supposed to prosper. They’re supposed to be poor and destitute. How dare they prosper and not pay for the upkeep of the land they were forced to surrender under duress.

Of course the premise is absurd!
Ignorance begets racism. Know your history. The whole point of reconciliation is for the ROC to realize what occurred in the colonization of Canada and treaties. A crime. Métis were also stiffed and robbed of their land rights. Non status lost everything, including status.
Land title and control of natural resources is what this current asymmetrical war is about.

Why do you think NDP and greens only support FN land claims? And CPC want to eliminate treaties?

It’s all about who has control of natural resources. Oil, gas, minerals, water, & land.
You know why the Alberta curriculum removes indigenous information? So people remain ignorant of the crimes that made the far right wealthy. Just like slavery is sold as a benefit for black people in the Americas over those in Africa?!

Those in control get to write history.
Higgs is a conservative. He has a majority government now. And a new outlook on how indigenous people should be viewed. He also happens to be a Dominionist Christian. As so many of the other conservative premiers are.

And which level of government controls natural resources?
That’s correct. It’s the provinces. Feds only have purview over national concerns.

Can people see the strategy yet?

Gain the trust of First Nations, break up the country of Canada, steal the land title from FN, make trillions more raping this continent.
Can people see that it isn’t the Liberals aiming to steal the land once again? But opposition parties are all too accommodating of FN demands for compensation and recognition of land title. And to destroy & dismantle Canada (along with treaties protecting all indigenous people).
Read a history book people. Understand land title. It’s the linchpin to everything.

Land = prosperity. Title is legal claim to that prosperity.

Since Christian Nationalists in the US seem to be leading this movement, here is what to expect from Canadian xenophobic Christian Nationals.

This isn’t a joke or hyperbole. This is what they want. To make Manifest Destiny real.

You can see why treaties would be a nuisance.
How many Canadians know their North American history? I bet few. The dominant culture and those who benefitted and still do are reluctant to reveal the devastation created by expansion of the US and Canada (British Empire).

So many believe Kenney wants to go back to the 1950’s.

I keep repeating it’s not the 1950’s. That was the Golden Age of American Capitalism.

Kenney is looking to implement a return to 1850. Before human rights. Before treaties. When whomever legally claimed land owned it.

Interesting independent journalism article.

ALEC has formed a resistance group to climate change.

Weirder still, their position sounds awfully familiar to Canadian conservative’s strategy. @Tentoads4truth

Could UCP, Sask Party or Ontario PC’s be giving ALEC advice?
However their strategy was developed, it is certainly supported by Canadian conservative premiers.

Was this the retaliation Kenney referred to when Biden cancelled KXL?

Me thinks this could be it.
What is it called when an entire industry attempts to write laws favourable to their profit making and eliminating federal government power to regulate them?

A corporatist coup?

A cartel coup?

A plutocrat coup?

Whatever the descriptor, this is an organized coup. ImageImageImageImage

The response to this desperate request for federal coordination and extreme targeted measures to save maximum number of lives is disturbing to say the least!
There has been a coordinated strategy to divide the nation & destroy the unity of a national identity. I’m devastated that it seems to have succeeded.

Conservative politicians have relentlessly incited animus while exuding arrogance & haughty derision on progressive Canadians.
We have a visceral and palpable physical reaction to politicians like Ford, Kenney, Moe, Pallister, Legault. Horgan is also in this group, and receives less bile, but that’s a disturbing phenomenon on its own. He doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Mr. Tapper and CNN have been corrected by thousands of Canadians.

Yet he and his network persist in amplifying this disinformation.

Why?
Why has CNN been connected, through Jake Tapper, to promotion of conspiracy theories favouring the far right?

This is not Tapper’s first kick at the cat. He personally gave legitimacy to Trump and denigrated Clinton in 2016 US presidential election.
His devotion to truth is questionable. He’s a click bait king misleading a nation.

Americans know this. Canadians need to be aware of it as well.

It’s disheartening that political pundits continue to ignore the political splintering of conservatives has ALWAYS been the radical evangelical religious right asserting dominance. Every fricking time!

cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…
By continuously ignoring the power wielded by religious extremism in Alberta, the public remains in a fog, unable to discern what is happening in provincial and federal politics.

This attempt to normalize jockeying for control of the agenda is discouraging.
Is it lack of familiarity about the Christian right? Or is it the attempt to keep religion and politics separate?

But the effort to normalize what has been happening in Alberta since 1935 is intentional. And that makes me angry and resentful.

JFC! This is a disaster. Conservatives are a complete disaster. We will never get out of covid misery until we get rid of conservative governments.

Note: BC isn’t conservative. They are NDP. But left libertarians are as easy to buy off as cons apparently.
Now add Liberty Coalition and crazy church goers refusing to wear masks and worshipping in secret.

This will be catastrophic. Don’t go out unless it’s absolutely necessary.
Then add white supremacist liberty protesters.

I resent my tax dollars being spent on people who insist on harming themselves.

It’s one thing for freedom fighters to refuse to wear a seatbelt. Quite another for weekly sessions of group Russian roulette with a deadly disease.
