NEW: Police and sheriffs in Minnesota have been paid more than $500,000 by a foreign corporation, Enbridge Energy, while they surveilled & harassed Indigenous activists opposing the Line 3 pipeline.

The payments came via an escrow account overseen by an ex-deputy police chief.
Enbridge, a Canadian corporation responsible for the largest-ever U.S. inland oil spill, is now building a massive tar sands pipeline through pristine wetland and Indigenous land in Minnesota.

Activists want @POTUS & @SecDebHaaland to cancel the project and #StopLine3.
Enbridge's construction permit established an escrow account that the company uses to pay Minnesota law enforcement for any activity related to the pipeline, including "Public safety related costs for maintaining the peace in and around the construction site."
That means local police can bill Enbridge for any time spent acting against the anti-pipeline activists and water protectors. Activists say this incentivizes the police to spend more time harassing and targeting protestors.
minnesotareformer.com/2021/04/12/enb…
Minnesota police arrested water protectors who gathered on Anishinaabe treaty territory to physically block the construction of the pipeline.
.@JaneFonda and constitutional rights attorney Mara Verheyden-Hilliard filmed their interaction with Minnesota police, heading to a #StopLine3 event.
More Line 3 protestors were arrested while praying, at an event mourning the anniversary of the Grand Rapids oil spill.

These are just some of the countless incidences of arrests and harassment the water protectors face at the hands of local police.
.@TheIntercept reported that the Minnesota Sheriff’s Office requested that Enbridge reimburse them for nearly $72K in riot gear and over $10K in “less than lethal” weapons and ammunition, which were described in the request as PPE.
theintercept.com/2021/02/10/pol…
Protestors have not yet seen police deploy the munitions purchased, but it would fit a trend of authorities using brutal force against Indigenous activists.

Local law enforcement spent $38M on a militarized response against Dakota Access pipeline protesters at Standing Rock.

EXCLUSIVE: More Perfect Union has obtained a sweeping 150-page draft GOP voter suppression bill that would severely restrict voting in Ohio.

The legislation includes provisions that are even more radical than Georgia's new voting laws, which have spurred a national backlash.
The new Ohio voter suppression bill would:

- Require voters to provide *two* forms of ID to vote absentee or early
- Create different ID rules for mail and early in-person voting
- Eliminate ALL ballot drop boxes
- Cut the most popular day of early voting
- Ban pre-paid postage
Ohio already has some of the most restrictive voting laws and is one of the most gerrymandered states.

It has purged 2 million voters since 2012 and significantly depressed minority turnout.

These measures will further target low-income voters, young people & people of color.

Today, Jeff Bezos released a letter to Amazon shareholders defending the company against accusations that it's bad for employees, small businesses and the environment.

But, many of his claims don’t reflect reality. A thread 🧵
sec.gov/Archives/edgar…
Bezos says he always strives to give more than he receives. He notes the contributions Amazon has made to employees, customers and shareholders.

He doesn't mention that Amazon systematically avoids paying taxes. It paid $0 in federal taxes in 2017-18 and barely any in 2019.
Bezos asks rhetorically, "Does your chair take comfort in the outcome of the recent union vote in Bessemer? No, he doesn’t."

Does Bezos commit to allowing free and fair union elections without coercing, firing or intimidating workers?

No, he doesn’t.

NEWS: This past week, local NBC and ABC affiliates have aired fake "interview" segments that look like news, but are actually corporate propaganda paid for by America's largest business lobby, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

We couldn't believe our eyes. So we went digging.
The segments all feature the @USChamber CEO attacking the PRO Act, a bill that would make it easier for American workers to form unions.

If passed, the PRO Act will be the first major U.S. law expanding worker power since 1935.

The U.S. Chamber is fighting it tooth and nail.
One of the networks that aired a segment was Arizona ABC affiliate @KGUN9 "On Your Side.”

The only way a viewer would know the segment was paid lobbyist propaganda was a chyron that flashed on the screen for a total of 4 seconds.

One of the most pivotal decisions of Joe Biden's presidency is approaching.

On May 5, he must choose between protecting the profits of Big Pharma, or ending the pandemic worldwide by allowing lower-income nations to manufacture COVID vaccines.
Rapidly ending the pandemic worldwide is in Americans' best interests. But that isn't happening.

Only .1% of vaccine doses have been administered in low-income countries.

The longer it takes, the more likely the virus mutates into a vaccine-resistant strain.
Countries like India and South Africa *could* produce their own vaccines right now, but that's illegal because drugmakers like Moderna control the patents.

Nevermind that Moderna's vaccine was developed thanks to billions in U.S. taxpayer funds.

BREAKING: More Perfect Union has obtained new details about Amazon’s illegal actions to defeat the union.

The violations make it overwhelmingly likely that the NLRB will overturn the results and give workers a second election.

Details in the video and thread below.
We've learned that at least 20% of the election votes are believed to have come from the illegal ballot dropbox that Amazon installed at its warehouse.

These ballots arrived at the NLRB in large batches on February 12 and 17, according to sources with knowledge of the election.
As a result, a substantial portion of the total election votes are linked to Amazon’s unlawful actions that the National Labor Relations Board specifically directed the company not to take.
