An update on the effort to push back against the Republican voter suppression attempts in Michigan.
Thread:

NBC News just made a Facebook post about the Michigan Republicans' attempt to circumvent the governor's veto on their package of 39 voter suppression bills.
If you're on Facebook, see how the conversation between voters & bots is going at this link:
This attempt hinges on the Republicans successfully circulating a ballot initiative petition containing the language of the voter suppression bills, and collecting 340,000 valid signatures from Michigan voters in 180 days. Volunteers would never do this.

The MI GOP would have to spend about $3 million to hire out of state petition circulators who would mislead voters into signing by saying this would show up on the ballot. It won't, in MI, at that point the legislature can pass it with no veto risk.
That's important, because corporations are increasingly being held accountable by voters & even themselves when it comes to the impact their donations have on our fundamental democratic rights. Remember, the GOP needs $3m to fund their petition. 💸
A coalition of organizations has come together to push back against this brazen attempt to suppress the vote which includes things like banning ballot boxes the day before & day of the election. Ballot box utilization was highest in Detroit on election day & the day before.

This is the type of detail the GOP is terrified the voters will know about. Well, 15k Michiganders have come together online to make sure every voter is informed about these details. We're amplifying the work of great orgs like @MiVoterPower, @DETROITNAACP & @NotPoliticians.

You can see some of those democracy heroes making their voices heard in the NBC News Facebook comment section linked in this tweet & at the top of this thread.
Slander in MI is defamatory & false statements designed to stop third parties from interacting with individuals. Ann Arbor Council Member Ali Ramlawi is openly attempting to do this to me, a BIPOC anti-segregation activist, with his city Facebook account. A thread. #a2council

"Communications are defamatory if they “harm the reputation of another as to lower him in the estimation of the community or to deter third persons from associating or dealing with him.” Swenson-Davis v. Martel...(Mich. Ct. App. 1984)." #a2council

You should stop what you are doing and watch @NedStaebler rip apart the Republicans in #WayneCounty on the Board of Canvassers for being racists who tried to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of Black voters in #Detroit .
This is a thread about a disgraced Trumpian mayor who is running for re-election in California, in the city where the @Apple headquarters is located.
You may remember Steven Scharf calling to build a wall around #Cupertino and have (28% Latino) San Jose pay for it.

One of Scharf’s worst acts as Cupertino mayor has been his continued support for Planning Commissioner R Wang, who has been accused of sexual harassment, identify theft, and stalking a former Redwood City planning commissioner & city councilmember.
2/15
R Wang is accused of impersonating a former Redwood City planning commissioner & city councilmember, stealing her identity, and signing her up for pornographic websites. He did this just because he disagreed with her over a water recycling policy.
This is what happens when @SenMikeShirkey and @LeeChatfield's supporters go off the Q Anon rails, and start calling the governor literally Hitler, without any pushback from them at all. This is squarely on them. They know how militia adjacent their supporters are.
Anyone who listened to me on @PlanForThatPod 3 weeks ago could have seen this coming. Republican consultants and politicians sanitize militia messaging for cooperative recruitment for both parties. This is the end result. It's predictable.

Here is the story in the Detroit News, of course, they failed to hold the Republicans who absolutely could have stopped this if they wanted to accountable.
🗣️📢If you know me IRL or through #a2council, you know I make videos to help unelect bad local politicians. Cupertino, CA has been taken over by some of the worst NIMBYs in the country. This election may determine the final fate of segregation in the US.
You haven't seen new videos from me in the last few weeks because I have doubled down on researching current Cupertino Mayor "build a wall" Scharf and his sidekick Kitty "Q Anon, but for Apple Engineers" Moore. They are both seeking seats on council.
Kitty Moore gets a weird nickname because she's so obsessed with watching her property value increase, she makes flippant claims about Apple employees who would rent new housing bringing prostitutes to the suburbs. She says the things even Trump won't say.
