There is a pattern of public health experts, doctors & scientists critical of the Ford govt undermined or harassed for expressing their professional opinion.
Ford has ignored public health experts — including those recommending paid sick days, more LTC staff, & class size caps.
@DFisman is one of many unpaid govt consultants who also has paid work. Yet Ford singled him out in a stinging statement in an effort to undermine him. Meanwhile, highly-paid for-profit LTC owners sit at Ford's advisory tables, and he hasn’t attacked their conflicts of interest.
Dr. Michael Warner, critical of Ontario’s #COVID19 response, closed his social media accounts due to harassment. Ford was silent.
Dr. Nathan Stall, a geriatrician working with vulnerable seniors, attacked on social media for getting a vaccine he required. Ford was silent. 3/4
We know that too many people fell through the cracks during the first provincial lockdown. Instead of learning from the devastation, Ford is sitting on billions in COVID-19 relief funds while issuing a lockdown. But I'm going to keep fighting for those supports.
This means fighting for paid sick days so that people who feel sick can afford to stay home.
It means supporting our front-line and essential workers, who are risking their health to keep our province running.
This new record was preventable. My condolences to the 20 families that are now mourning. These numbers are more than just statistics, they represent people. People's grandmothers, fathers, friends and more.
Ford's response to the pandemic is not working. These numbers say loud and clear that it's time for him to put his own agenda aside, and start listening to experts and communities.
So far, it seems everyone else is to blame but Mr. Ford himself. He's pointed fingers at public health workers and teachers, while underfunding them. He's blamed individual behaviour and 'yahoos' for the spread. It's time to look at his own record.
I’m calling on Doug Ford to immediately deploy additional resources to #COVID19 hotspots – from testing and contract tracing resources to personal protective equipment and financial supports. 1/
Thanks to a map from the City of Toronto, it’s more obvious than ever that COVID-19 hot spots are concentrated in communities that are low-income and predominantly racialized. 2/
In north Etobicoke and Scarborough, Black and racialized Ontarians — many of whom work in low-wage and high-exposure jobs as personal support workers or grocery store workers — have been left more exposed to COVID-19 transmission. 3/
This election is about change for the better. And it’s never been more possible. #onpoli#OnElxn
Let’s come together. Let’s stop Doug Ford’s cutting and privatizing plan in its tracks. Let’s fix our health care system, have dental coverage for everyone and make life more affordable for families. Let’s come together, and make change for the better happen. #onpoli#OnElxn
Kathleen Wynne has abandoned the fight against Doug Ford's cuts. And her request today for a minority government is a demand that she be allowed to continue to hold the power at Queen’s Park – something voters have already rejected. #OnElxn#onpoli
