This image...is there a historic parallel? Sadly, there is. I may be fantasising but there is a parallel here. How many of you heard of Second World War's Bombing of Dresden - the bombing raid which destroyed Dresden and killed thoousands. Many questioned the need of it.
What did it achieve? Or is just a British ego massage as like what Arthur Bomber Harris puts it - I do not personally regard the whole of the remaining cities of Germany as worth the bones of one British Grenadier?
Look at another quote by him. There lies the answer. Operation Thunderclap. And Dresden was not a one off.
The aim of this operation is simple – bomb the hell out of German cities, people will be forced onto the roads, clogging the supply routes of German army fighting the Russians. The target was cities like Dresden, Chemnitz, Berlin and Liepzig, the population centres in the east.
Stalin, at Yalta demanded the Allies to stop redeployment of German troops from West to East and help Russians end the war for good. And this was the plan they came up with. Of these Dresden on 13 Feb 1945 was an extreme case.
If fact, America was to carry out the raid against Dresden but due to unfavourable weather, the British did that. Americans came the next day to destroy whatever is left standing. Dresden attacks alone caused at least 25000 accounted casualties and many more unaccounted –
some skeletons simply melted away and some vapourized in the heat. Nazi propaganda gave the count as 500000, may be the number who turned shelterless because of the attacks. Another such raid in Pforzheim killed 17600, with 83% of the city destroyed.
While Churchill who was actually the one who started bombing of cities in Second World War initially supported these raids, he backtracked after a month.
Churchill said, “It seems to me that the moment has come when the question of bombing of German cities simply for the sake of increasing the terror, though under other pretexts, should be reviewed. Otherwise we shall come into control of an utterly ruined land.
The destruction of Dresden remains a serious query against the conduct of Allied bombing.”
But, his Bomber Command head countered him on the same day.
I do not personally regard the whole of the remaining cities of Germany as worth the bones of one British Grenadier. It therefore seems to me that there is one and only one valid argument on which a case for giving up strategic bombing could be based,
namely that it has already completed its task and that nothing now remains for the Armies to do except to occupy Germany against unorganized resistance.”
This table gives some of the main raids carried out. Berlin is not listed because such bombing was a daily affair there.
What's the parallel, between these two, then? To win a war, all you need to do is to stop effective deployment of the army. And blocking roads is one very effective way. Churchill achieved it by bombing the hell out of Dresden, someone else achieved it by an illegal sit-out.
Much resources are wasted and much lives are impacted. And yes. The movers won't be impacted. It's only the common people who are made instruments of war. This single image tells many stories. The wailing Jattni goes for vaccination but others should suffer because of her sitout?
Am I fantasising? I don't know. But, one thing is certain. Many groups want to hurt India's fight against COVID and all sorts of games are played from misinformation to rule-breaking to clogging major arteries. How much is insensitivity and how much is planned is to be seen.
Plan for the next nakabandi and blocking of access to hospitals. With deaths rising, may be, the government will succumb to pressure?

Just think realistically. China wasn't able to maintain its position in Ladakh for one winter and it is dreaming of challening India in its backyard? 90% of Nepal's trade passes through India. Do you have an alternate? amp.scmp.com/week-asia/poli…
CPEC units turned bankrupt even before the whole project is completed. The parasitic beggars's use was seen when they refused to mobilize towards Khaplu when the Chinese are stuck in Ladakh and importing Taliban into Xinjiang is the worst thing China can do.
To maintain a position in Himalayas really costs. And when you need to trudge thousands of kilometres of occupied lands to reach Indian border, you will really bleed money. Many empires collapsed trying to garrison Tibet and Tarim. The CCPoohs seem to be the next in line.
India never supported Sri Lankan Tamils wholeheartedly in the fear that they will fan separatist flames in India. But something worse is happening in Myanmar now. The Christian Mizo are daring the Central Govt to set up an independent Christian Chin state.
Will Centre stay silent or will it fix the mess before the flames spead everywhere for demands of Christian Fundamentalist Kuki-Chin and Nagalim Superstates? Manipur will be in the line of fire if we don't act in time and we don't want the Meitei to become the next Bru or Chakma.
India is lazy to implement Curzon Doctrine and South East Asia is soon becoming the new global theatre. When East Timor or South Sudan were created out of nowhere due to external pressure, do you suppose Myanmar can hold on without Indian support? Zomi and Naga state maps.
Gandhi's grandfather was the Diwan of Porbandar and his mother's family managed the main Pranami temple of Porbandar. Just think what sort of a family background Kasturba would have come from.
Gandhi forced her to do what he did - his Harijan Seva and all, he gave away all her jewel - the ones which she brought from her parents, forced her to wear that coarse khadi, she saw her son ruined before her eyes because of Gandhi's obstinacy(he died of syphillis later)
and ultimately died of depression. What sort of a life she envisioned before marriage and what sort of a life she got? I am sure she would have cursed her parents daily for sending him to England for his education.
I was supposed to look into Google BERT and here I am, reading about Arab Caliphates (in an attempt to close my reading on Shahis). And know what? The whole narrative of Arab Enterprise till the rise of Abbasids can be defined through just two words - plunder and al Hind Miskeen!
So, what's the story all about? It all started with Uthman becoming the Caliph of Islam. When Persian and Syria were conquered, those rich lands became the property of invading armies and were loosely managed by the state.
By the time Uthman came to power, the Arab expansion came to a screeching halt. And the supply through plunder of new lands came to a near stop. With this, Medina had to demand money from the already conquered provinces - Uthman appointed his relatives to senior posts and
Abdur Rahman's The last two dynasties of the Sahis is considered to be the best book over Shahis. But, I am not getting any confidence over this. Compare these two sets.
I am interested to know how knowledged this gentleman is, on Sanskrit original of Rajatarangini and other Hindu/Buddhist books on the topic.
One should be realistic enough. Pakistan has fought three wars with India and no Indian will have access to Chhota Lahore or Hund. All they can quote is from some other reference or from historic memory.
The father in law of a Khotanese king in Gosthana Vyakarana - this single line tells much about Lalitaditya Muktapida than anything else except Kalhana's Rajatarangini. But, there is no mention of Lalitaditya here. What do we know of him and his achievements?
Next bit of information, from Petech's Kingdom of Ladakh. No reference to Lalitaditya even here!!
