It might seem odd that the dangerous lunatics who run the Democrat Party are so bitterly opposed to the police. They're authoritarians with a huge coercive agenda - shouldn't they love the agencies that will enforce their myriad laws?
You have to understand that Democrats will have plenty of ENFORCERS after they abolish the police. The State will keep growing, issuing more orders, and using both financial penalties and physical force to ensure those orders are obeyed. Resistance will be violently suppressed.
What Democrats loathe is the concept of a police force that has some inherent duty to protect THE PUBLIC. They want lethal government force reserved for defending THEM (just look at D.C.), protecting their interests, and enforcing their will.
It's a staple of Democrat rhetoric that the cops are a bunch of white supremacists, glorified mall cops keeping the hated Middle Class secure while it profits from the backs of the poor, an obstacle to the pursuit of Social Justice and Equity.
Many left-wing fantasies revolve around stripping the hated Middle Class of their mall cop protection and letting them have a taste of what it's like to be poor and afraid, i.e. the "Purge" films. The Left is always daydreaming about violent revolution against the Middle Class.
On a practical level, the Left would also like to replace myriad state and local police agencies with a single federalized force that it can loot for money and patronage, turning the police budget into another bloated "infrastructure" piggy bank for the statists.
Everything the Left does is about moving power further and further away from hard-working individual voters who don't have the time or inclination to organize into powerful grievance groups. They HATE the bourgeois having influence over law enforcement via local voting.
And they hate the reciprocal influence local law enforcement has upon middle class culture. Sign up for a concealed carry class and you'll most likely be taught by current or former LEOs. Local cops tend to be, shall we say, unsympathetic to much of the left-wing agenda.
Notice that the hard-Left Democrat Party is not even slightly concerned about the horrific loss of life in minority communities due to elevated crime from their Abolish the Police crusade. The bloodbath is politically useful to them for class warfare and gun control.
The Left wants to blame crime on social forces - "systemic racism," "income inequality," etc. - not individual actions for which specific criminals are held responsible. That's why they're gung-ho on the farcical idea of replacing police with social workers.
And as you might have noticed after the Year of the Pandemic, the Left wants Americans to live in fear. They hate red-state middle class communities where everyone feels secure and happy, insulated from the social crises the Left seeks to exploit for power.
They want to strip that insulation away by Abolishing the Police, which in practice will mean federalizing them. Statist politicians will decide which crimes are indulged, and which are punished harshly. No one will be allowed to feel secure. You Will Be Made to Care. /end
