This morning we are joined by the incredible @dgslaw to talk about capacity building as part of our Social Justice Fund series. We believe that strong, healthy nonprofits can show up better and help more, and we thank DGS for giving their expertise in support of this.
First up, Sterling LeBouef is discussing the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act in Colorado and how this impacts various areas of employment processes. #capacitybuilding
Switching gears, Sterling is addressing Return to Work considerations - something on all of our minds as the vaccines are made more accessible and pandemic recovery begins. #capacitybuilding#COVID19
Keeping a pulse on your local and state health orders is an important piece of return to work considerations, and will continue to be the guiding force for the foreseeable future. #capacitybuilding#COVID19
Sterling shares that, with the exception of accommodation requirements, employers can mandate vaccination for their employees. #capacitybuilding#COVID19#vaccines
Another thing Sterling notes is that just because remote work was allowed or required during the pandemic does not mean employers have to continue allowing it as local and state health orders ease requirements. #capacitybuilding#COVID19
He continues to explain that most employers, however, are looking toward not requiring vaccination on a culture and/or morale basis, not wanting to get involved in their employees personal medical decisions. #capacitybuilding#COVID19#vaccines
Next up, Rachel James is sharing information on fiduciary requirements for nonprofit organizations. #capacitybuilding
Rachel shares critical details of satisfying Duty of Loyalty requirements in order to retain 501(c)(3) status. One of the most important pieces, she notes, is the Conflict of Interest Policy. #capacitybuilding
Rachel talks about incorporating these requirements in your organization’s bylaws, so it can be set as an expectation of behavior from the top down. #capacitybuilding#nonprofitlaw#compliance
As a 501(c)(3) organization, you can’t be an action organization. “Have a charitable purpose and pursue that charitable purpose,” Rachel says. #capacitybuilding#nonprofitlaw
Thank you again to @dgslaw for sharing your time and expertise so wholly this morning. There was great information to guide on from settled issues like the Duty of Loyalty to more actively-shifting ones like the Return to Work considerations. Incredible insight!
