Canada requires an extreme lockdown to halt covid transmission.
And even that will only slow the transmission.
Yet some still protest to remove the inadequate restrictions in place.
Years from now people will wonder how the ignorant were permitted to protest. How did some deluded citizens come to demand the right to risk death and disease for everyone?
This famous quote has been adulterated by toxic libertarian rhetoric and irrational thinking to “give me liberty to risk my own health and the health of all other innocents.”
Conservative/Libertarian ideology is the scourge of humanity.
Our reluctance to act beyond the norm, our fear of challenging “legitimate”authority, our self imposed limitations regarding challenge of democratic political process have been bastardized and used to convince us to sacrifice our children.
When corrupt libertarian governments prioritize the economy and profits of the wealthy over the human right to life, the result is abandonment of the responsibility to protect the dependent vulnerable: our children.
Survival becomes the irreconcilable attempt to navigate between death by starvation or plague.
We all know we will die if we don’t eat. So we gamble with a pandemic because the risks are lower. We might escape illness, we won’t escape death by starvation.
Governments that impose this form of Russian roulette are not legitimate authorities. Protection of the population is well understood to be the main responsibility of governing parties.
But libertarians have abandoned that responsibility, rendering themselves illegitimate.
Conservative and libertarian ideology has exposed its intrinsic mendacity and immoral flaws.
Libertarianism is a belief system that requires the sacrifice of the many to preserve the comfort and prosperity of the few. Thus, it is rendered illegitimate as a democratic option.
Inhuman options cannot be tolerated or accepted as a legitimate belief by a social democracy.
Libertarianism is antithetical to equitable human political agency. There is no freedom or liberty when only the privileged few retain power and authority.
Libertarianism (not those who believe it to be a valid form of belief and values) must be exterminated to preserve democracy.
There is no other alternative during a deadly pandemic. Or at any other time, for that matter.
Democracy and libertarianism are incompatible. Left or right, libertarianism is the death knell of democratic values.
I’ve been sounding that clarion call for about 4 years now.
Hopefully the expectation to sacrifice our children will open the eyes of the public.
The public can no longer accept the illegitimate governance of libertarian leaders.
To do so is tacit approval of the expectation to sacrifice the lives of the many for the wealth accumulation and autocratic power of the libertarian few.
While philosophy isn’t a realm most people comfortably dabble with, at this juncture in time it is required to navigate our current circumstances.
We need to choose between democracy and autocracy, equity or hierarchy, safety or financial comfort.
We don’t often consider these polarities in political belief and values.
Our assumption is that these decisions were already made when allied forces won WW2.
We assume, incorrectly, that all Canadians value democracy and liberalist values.
Many have abandoned democratic beliefs and values for the power and control that wealth and prosperity provide. Libertarian values have replaced actual freedom and political agency for many.
How many willingly sent their children into a pandemic with few protections, rationalizing their choice using financial pressures?
Should the lives of our children ever be measured against financial concerns in Canada, a wealthy social democracy? The answer is NO.
Who among us expresses concern and hesitancy regarding the economic cost of preserving the vulnerable human lives of children? Libertarians. That’s who.
Concerned that their profits, livelihoods and political power is being compromised to save lives.
That’s why we continue to experience wave after wave of covid. Because libertarians and the governments they have paid millions to install consider their privilege as much higher value than the lives of the public, including children.
While this reality is ugly, repulsive and shocking, public acknowledgement of it and confrontation of the assumptions libertarianism requires of the public is necessary to preserve lives and to preserve social democracy.
We do not have the option to continue to withdraw from political agency because of indifference, fear, apathy or demoralization. Inaction is tacit approval of libertarian demands to abandon democratic institutions, beliefs and values.
We no longer have the luxury of taking our freedom and political agency for granted.
Democracy requires active participation. It’s messy, confrontational and frustrating.
Our forebears understood this but still eagerly participated in maintaining democracy.
They knew taking democracy for granted led to fascism and 60 million needless deaths.
Does modern civilization require a similar loss of life for contemporary citizens to take responsibility for maintaining democratic values and institutions that provide for our freedom?
I pray daily it does not. But this is my worst fear.
There are no heroes coming to save us from ourselves. We are our own saviours. That’s always been the solution to autocracy. Taking responsibility for democratic values and rejecting autocratic forms of governance.

Gone are the norms for decorum and political process. Swept away by constant bloviating, obstructionism, open disrespect, disinformation and personal smears.
While politics has always been fraught with conflict, generally reality wasn’t debated or created through discourse.
Democracy is a tricky concept to define. A few believe it’s limited to free and fair voting. Voting makes up a tangible part of democracy, but overall, democracy is a belief system. So it’s abstract in nature and difficult to fit into a narrow universal definition.
Their statement clearly expresses devaluation and disregard of those who hold beliefs and values different from their own and the minority who support them. It’s overt disrespect and dehumanization.
Not only is the UCP statement communicating that only the opinions of far right libertarians and conservatives will be heard, they are clearly revealing their disdain for all others.
While her screed comes with a warning, Naomi Wolf has an enormous following and several impressionable and gullible young women look up to her as a feminist and climate change advocate.
Did she stop taking medication or start taking shrooms?
It’s embarrassing.
Not for me, for her and all her followers.
She also recently did an interview with Steve Bannon indicating her fondness for Steve and that he was a good guy.
🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Absurd. Without a doubt, she’s been drinking koolaid. Way to much koolaid.
Alberta, we have a serious problem in Edmonton and in the @edmontonpolice.
Watch this video please.
I’m afraid for BIPOC. Please do not let this escape your attention. This is a teenager in Edmonton, attacked by a mob of other white teens, intent on doing harm.
The public must support this family and the black community.
We must also confront the issue with police in Edmonton.
The officer and detachment administration must be held accountable for this brutality being ignored. The attempt to dismiss it as an “altercation” condemned.
So far the Rebel has interfered in France federal election, sympathetically covered Charlottesville Neo-Nazis, trained with Russian saboteurs, promoted Jan6 insurrection, and now laundered American money to fund UK based Tommy Robinson.
Hmm. Also connected to Proud Boys and Jack Posobiec. Currently helping run Christian Nationalist disinformation campaign.
Can anyone say far right mercenary saboteur and dark money agents for hire for foreign adversaries?
