Gwinnett County is Georgia’s second-largest county and one of the most diverse in the state. The provisions in this bill disproportionately burden voters of color, who heavily relied on access to absentee voting and ballot drop boxes to cast their votes in 2020 and 2021.
As Gwinnett’s elections director notes, #SB202 also imposes restrictive ID requirements for absentee ballots and limits the timeframe for requesting absentee ballots.

#SB202 also bans grant funding to help counties cover costs of elections. As noted by the Gwinnett elections director, the county received $6.5 million in grants in 2020, but Republicans are depriving counties of future grant funds and passing the deficit to taxpayers.
In #SB202, GOP legislators also granted themselves majority control of the State Elections Board and seized power from local elections officials. Director Ledford said, “[The legislature] just took that power away from the county governing authority and put it with themselves.”
