❌ #Brexit represents the great lie of the British right.
Boris Johnson promised the United Kingdom the recovery of full sovereignty. Four months of separation show that the Europe of borders is nothing more than the pain of nationalism as always!
We must extend a hand of friendship to the British, and we must do everything possible to develop a constructive partnership on foreign and security policy.
The responsibility for the mistakes of populist leaders should not fall on future agreements.
🇪🇺🇬🇧 We'll scrutinise the level playing field provisions that exist to prevent social dumping, and we’ll use all the tools at our disposal to make sure that these provisions are applied fairly and equally.
@RobertAbela_MT@IratxeGarper@PL_Malta Taking the floor, @RobertAbela_MT welcomes the Group to Malta, and thanks the S&D for choosing Malta for the first External Group Meeting after the pandemic, as a sign of support for the reforms of the Maltese gov.
This is the first meeting that our Group has had outside out of Brussels since the pandemic, says @IratxeGarper.
It’s a moment to re-build contact with citizens, to get outside of the bubble of Brussels. We must learn about people’s shared concerns.
Today we presented our nominees for the 2021 #SakharovPrize: A collective of 11 prominent Afghan Women who have been bravely fighting for equality and full enjoyment of human and fundamental rights in 🇦🇫
2/4 🧵
These Afghan women are both human rights defenders and victims of human rights abuses.
By nominating them, we are sending a message to the international community: We must defend the rights and freedoms of women and the whole population of Afghanistan.
They are women activists, politicians, journalists and teachers who have been fighting for women’s rights, and were themselves part of the political and associative life in 🇦🇫 before the Taliban seized the control.
First up in #EPlenary this morning, we debate the EU COVID-19 certificate.
This will be a temporary tool to help European citizens travel safely and freely again, while protecting their data privacy and avoiding new restrictions.
As we start our farewell ceremony for our @LabMEPs, we want to thank them and their staff for the hard work they carried out over more than 45 years.
This is not a goodbye, it’s an au revoir. Our progressive fight doesn’t stop here.
Our President @IratxeGarper opens the ceremony in honour of @LabMEPs
We’ll continue to fight together for a better, more sustainable and more social world. We as progressives can do more and will do more, together with all of you, with a strong Labour Party.
It’s a sad day for Europe and for our socialist family. If our generation saw how walls could be brought down, this generation will have to do more to protect what we have.
Be aware that this is still your home. We’ll continue to fight together. @EP_President to @LabMEPs
