Auditor Gen'l of Ont Bonnie Lysyk "had there been less of a crowding issue, the mortality rate might not have been as high. The fact that some of the deaths are attributed to malnutrition, indicates the staffing may have been an issue" (paraphrased)
LTC not prepared for COVID-19

from sidebar notes per @CBCCalgary:
- Residents were living in rooms with 3-4 occupants
- Insufficient LTC staff and staff training for appropriate care
- Infection prevention not consistently practised
(cont'd next tweet)
3/
from sidebar notes per @CBCCalgary:
- Province discontinued proactive inspections in 2018
- Restricting family visits reduced source of resident care

adding this, as I think it's relevant (IMHO)

Premier Kenney finally just started speaking cpac.ca/en/direct/cpac…
2/
oh FFS
second sentence spoken "but the vaccines didn't arrive fast enough"

It's not the fed vaccine distribution that is causing our rising cases! It's provincial health measures that matter
3/
Kenney lists a bunch of places, including major cities & towns that will be more restricted, because their case counts are higher. Why not just make it province-wide?

Janyce McGregor "dosing intervals lies w/prov jurisdictions. Alta, for ex, is ahead of jurisdictions as being fully dosed. Other countries extended beyond initial wndw. NACI an independent branch. Not denying there's scientific debate, but not feds that decide this" (paraphrased)
(@CBCNews regarding Conservative motion before the House for debate during today's Opposition Day)
clarification
- rereading my abbreviation in tweet 1/
it can be misunderstood as reading that Albertans are fully dosed. What was said was more to do with Alberta being ahead in terms of how close we are to being fully dosed, compared to some other provinces.

- excellent segment. Heard from @larochecbc (in Halifax, NS), @VassyKapelos (in Ont), and @CBCFletch (in Alberta) - regarding COVID19 measures, ICU capacities, childcare, paid sick leave, and so on.
2/
@TheCurrentCBC's host @mattgallowaycbc spoke with @CBCFletch about something I'd wondered - why is the Ont ICU capacity worse than Alta, yet Alta case/capita worse?
= Alta brought ICU use down more than Ont, end of 2nd wave before 3rd wave. But that advantage is wearing off
3/
- and we heard that @VassyKapelos is officially on mat leave now. Best wishes with the next chapter in your life, Ms Kapelos

PM Trudeau @JustinTrudeau says he's standing by, offering help to Alberta. I really hope Premier Kenney @jkenney can set aside any personal feelings he has about PMJT and the LPC, and will put us Albertans before his politics. Albertans would see this as good leadership (IMHO)
2/
I know people are skeptical, based upon past experience, but I really believe that this would impress Albertans of all stripes. It would improve Premier Kenney's image as a leader - surely that appeals to him?

@CBCEyeopener We visit Silver Springs and Bowmont Park with our dogs. First two from Oct 2020, last two from March 2021 ImageImageImageImage
2/
I agreed with your inclusion of Silver Springs Gardens.
I missed the name of the hashtag your guest uses for Calgarians wishing to share suggestions of good spots for photography in the city, or I'd include it in this tweet.
3/
walking along the ridge in Silverthorn Park, to Bowmont Park, & Bowness Park, then the Bow River pathway(s), & including Twin Bridges = a great loop. Takes time, & you need to wear sneakers or other shoes with good treads - for coming down the ridge, but worth it (NW Calgary) Image

Chief Shahin Mehdizadeh, Lethbridge Police Service: says along the lines of "we need to protect everyone involved"

then says (direct quote) "including those police officers who have allegedly made these mistakes ... let's not make judgements before we have the facts"
