Just realized that most sw folks who quote Goldratt's Theory Of Constraints principles (starting with "the Goal") don't know wtf they are talking about.
Goldratt uses a manufacturing line as an example, so these 'thought leaders' look for a 'line' in their companies, latch on to requirements --> code --> test as a 'flow line' and then look for 'constraints' , use 'kanban boards' and so on
Goldratt's Theory of Constraints is actually a much deeper and sophisticated theory, and takes a *lot* of work to apply to practical situations, often *days* of systematic thinking to resolve specific problems
Oh well, at least we can recognize Thought Leader poseurs/wannabes by evaluating how much(or little) they know of what Goldratt actually wrote ;-)
Goldratt embedded his theories in cheesy stories to address these people, who'd glaze over at logic and math ;-)

Mastery of X (where X is an area of study- say CS or Philosophy or whatever, or a skill, say a musical instrument, or calligraphy or sport, will *massively* enhance the quality your life BUT (
- for that quantum enhancement to kick in, you *first* have to put in a certain amount of work (say 3-5 years of 3-4 hours a day), till the positive effects kick in (again think of learning a musical instrument to an expert level)
- BUT most people don't want to/or "want to but can't bring themselves to " put in the work to climb the initial slope, so continue where they are, *and* get frustrated at lack of achievement.
Of course, this is nothing new, I'm just surprised at the frequency of manifestation.
