I don't have a huge list of questions if I had a one-on-one convo with @jordanbpeterson but at times questions arise. As I listen to his most recent Q/A I do wonder about his relationship with his guild.
I really enjoyed Slate Star Codex' review of 12 rules for life. slatestarcodex.com/2018/03/26/boo… He noted that to him @jordanbpeterson sounded like a good clinical therapist.
It is noteworthy that Peterson has said that he has personally never been in therapy himself. I was aghast at that statement when I heard it knowing how much nearly every therapist I've known values that process as part of their own personal and professional formation
In this Q/A he as is typical in these Q/A sessions he did prior to his illness answers many questions as a clinician giving specific practical advice often "you can do it this way or with a friend..."
What I don't recall him EVER saying is "you might want to find a therapist to help you work through these issues." Maybe he has. This is surprising because I regularly hear therapists and pastors advising referral rather than trying to answer the question directly.
Does he not trust his guild? Is his opinion of his answers so high that he would not recommend someone go on that hunt for a therapist rather than follow the generalized advice he offers?
I am well aware both from the experience of referral and looking for myself how difficult it is to find a professional therapist that can really be helpful, yet I do recommend people look if they need one. Is his opinion of his so low? This isn't a knock. It's an honest question
