When I was quite young
My grandfather told me a story
He said a mosquito wanted to toast a very beautiful lady
but it was too small and too insignificant for the lady to notice it
So the mosquito device a plan to get the lady's attention by sending emissaries to the lady's family

The emissaries dressed very well and were loaded with gifts
They said they came on behalf of their master to ask for the beautiful lady's hand in marriage
The beautiful lady's family members were swept off their feet
They were sure her beauty had attracted a prince charming
They

asked the lady if she would like to accept the gifts from her suitor
She said Yes!
They asked the emissaries to present their master
Mr. Mosquito flew into the room
Everybody started to laugh
They were sure it was a practical joke
The mosquito raised its voice and said "Even if

I look so small and insignificant in your eyes, do you not pause to wonder how I am able to amass the wealth that was presented in your house today?
Do you still think I am insignificant?
Should I prove how powerful I am to you or would you consider the evidence before you and

take me seriously?
The lady and her family had a meeting
Nobody wanted to make Mr. Mosquito angry
He was obviously a man of great wealth and accomplishments
The evidence spoke for itself
So the lady accepted his gift and gave him an audience
Mr. Mosquito married her a few weeks

later
The morale of the story, as my grandfather explained it was "If you are smart and you know you belong to the top, don't wait until somebody notices you and makes room for you! Do great things and make a lot of noise about your deeds. Carve a place for yourself at the top!

I didn't know how to put that principle to work until I heard Jose Mourinho's "I am the special one's interview"
Nobody had ever had the audacity to blow his own trumpet like that before in coaching history
It was arrogant and totally indecent in it's colouring but the world paid

attention
He was Mr. Mosquito, he was a nobody who achieved a great feat and dared to make a lot of noise about it
Of course many people hated him for it but I found that quality oddly familiar as I read the scriptures
A certain man stood in front of religious leaders and called

himself the resurrection and the life!
How Audacious
The same man also said He and God were one
That statement almost led to that character being stoned to death
There are several ways to rise to the top
The Mourinho way is as legal as the Fergusson way
And I love both men!

Archbishop Benson Idahosa said he once went to America to minister. While he was lodged in the hotel, a group of 16 pastors from an African Country came to visit him
They told him they were in America on a fundraising mission
They wanted to build a cathedral and felt their help

would come from abroad

In 2009, a classmate of mine who graduated with me the previous year from Bowen University came to my house
He had this idea about me writing a book for him
His father owned a printing press and he could get the book published for cheap
We discussed terms and he paid me the

initial deposit
I wrote the book and gave him the manuscript in three weeks
He took it straight to his father
His father read it and told him to go and get the writer
His father had a distinction in literature and had written many books for many pastors
HIs printing press was

somewhere around Yaba
I met with this young man's father
He told me he liked my writing and would like to offer me a contract
There was a project that had been on his table for about two years
The project was viable but he didn't have a writer that was good enough to execute the

His first words were "I don't want to end up like my father"
He said it as a matter of fact
The way someone who had given an issue a lot of thought would normally speak
It was an encouraging start to a marriage counseling session
It shows he knew there was a problem somewhere

He went on the describe his father as a very violent and abusive man
A man who had no regard for his mother
An ex-military man who fathered many children with many women but never stayed with any of the women for more than two years at a stretch

My older sister almost got raped twice
Once by a man in his forties while we were teenagers
The man taught me and my younger brother how to play chess
He was a journalist too
Quiet and very religious
My sister was fourteen at the time and I was twelve
My sister wanted to learn

how to play chess
She didn't like that fact that I and my younger brother had a game we were playing that she didn't know how to play

He discovered as a teenager why the walls of his uncle's room was covered by pictures of naked women
His uncle, his mother's immediate younger brother was an undergraduate at the time
He was studying Electrical engineering
Their house had a boys quarters that was totally detached

from the main house
That was the room his parent's gave his uncle
They said he needed to have his privacy whenever he was around

The woman of God had so much to say that morning, she was the pastor of a thriving parish of a pentecostal church
Her husband was a big shot, an Army General
They were as rich as the sea
The church she was heading was in the middle of a crisis
The usual church member's unrest

People are difficult to lead
Sometimes they act as if they know what they want even when they had no clue
The church had been under the leadership of another pastor before she was transferred to the church
The church members were used to the way the previous pastor handled the

church
She understood that but she was not going to handle the church the same way
The church members wanted to pray! Pray about everything, even the things that needed the application of common sense
