TN has been allotted 1.35,500 vials of Remdesivir between April 21 and May 9, Centre tells Madras HC. CJ wants to know by when Sterlite copper smelting plant will begin producing medical oxygen @THChennai
CJ says change of govt in TN should not lead to letting the guard down against COVID-19. Wants to know status of oxygen, drugs and vaccination by tomorrow. Says black marketing of Remdesivir is also a serious issue. Wants Health Secretary to respond by tomorrow.
CJ: Mr. Additional Solicitor General it appears lot of aid has come from various countries including small nations like Romania but they are stuck in airports. We want to know the status on that also.
Senior Counsel P. Wilson: TN is running out of oxygen.
CJ: That's why we want to know how much can we get from Sterlite. We are one country and all States have to share oxygen equitably.
Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy: Mr. Additional Solicitor General, on what basis are you allocating Remdesivir to various States?
ASG: Based on number of positive cases My Lord. Maharashtra has more cases, so it gets more.
CJ: Please pay attention to Puducherry too.
Advocate for a litigant from Puducherry insists on suspending sale of cigarettes in the union territory. CJ gets angry and asks him not to make irrelevant requests.
CJ says the number of COVID-19 positive cases being reported in Puducherry are alarming given the size of the Union Territory.
CJ says court cannot direct govt to prevent attenders and visitors in COVID-19 wards and that it is for the govt to take a call after consulting experts.
