Things that set dangerous outrageous precedents:
—Allowing a POTUS to commit endless crimes for 4 years
—Voting to keep him in office after he tried to extort Ukraine to interfere in our election
—Not holding ANY @GOP member of Congress accountable for their role in Jan 6th
—Voting to overturn the results of a free and fair election
—Endorsing Trump’s big lie that the election was “stolen” and Biden is not the legitimate President (Biden is, Trump never was)
—Voting to acquit him after he called on his cultists to storm the Capitol, killing 5 people
—Enabling a President to ignore science, downplay the risks of a pandemic, call it “a hoax,” and do nothing for 75 days leading to over HALF A MILLION American deaths
—Allowing GOP governors to ignore or repeal mask mandates
—Encouraging people not to get vaccinated
—Stealing SCOTUS seats and packing the courts with unqualified extremists
—Undermining the peaceful transfer of power and confidence in our democratic process
—Passing laws that make it harder for people—particularly of color or marginalized groups—to vote
—Excusing sexual predators and enablers of abuse like Trump, Gaetz, Jordan, etc.
—Voting against relief for the American people; then taking credit for it when it passes anyway
—Voting against every bill that would benefit the American people
—Refusing to combat climate change
—Giving $2 trillion in tax breaks to billionaires while saying we can’t afford to help starving American families
—Voting against all common sense gun safety measures despite over 40,000 deaths A YEAR
—Having no platform and opting to just feign outrage over nonexistent scandals
—Doing everything possible to illegitimately cling to power
—Pushing white supremacist talking points on major “news networks” that inflame division and incite violence by promoting fear through lies
—Lying daily about “Biden’s border crisis” & continuing to demonize immigrants
—Voting to censure/punish the only few members of your party for merely telling the truth about the election and the @GOP’s role in Jan. 6th
—Keeping the filibuster in place to enable McConnell’s obstruction of vital legislation (Lookin at you too @SenatorSinema & @JoeManchinWV )
—Pretending that the rules and laws only apply to one party (Democrats)
—Deliberately misrepresenting or flat out lying about Biden’s position on everything
—Saying that we should “move on” from Jan 6th without any accountability for those responsible (you know who you are)
—Equating vandalism at BLM protests (much of which wasn’t even perpetrated by them) as equivalent to armed white supremacist insurrectionists storming the Capitol at Trump’s direction
—Getting one of your only black members to say “America is not a racist country”
—Voting repeatedly to overturn the ACA and rip healthcare from tens of millions
—Being unable to acknowledge much less state the words “Black Lives Matter,” because to you, they don’t
—Pushing dangerous conspiracy theories that target members of specific groups
—Feigning victimhood by perpetuating lies about “cancel culture” and the notion that democrats are “coming for you”
—Being anti-equality and pro-bigotry in every conceivable way
—Perjuring your oaths to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States every single day
—Deliberately misinterpreting the 1st Amendment to claim you’re being “censored” when all that’s happening is you facing a molecule of consequence for the harm your lies and rhetoric caused
—Doing everything possible to keep Americans divided and most fearful of each other
—Looking the other way as Trump repeatedly obstructed justice, told over 30K lies, cost hundreds of thousands of lives, committed treason, and incited violence
—Only caring about the national debt/deficit when a Democrat occupies the WH
—Voting against a federal livable wage
—Embracing and emboldening fascism, racism, and white supremacy
—Voting against ending gov’t corruption and the limitless flow of money in politics that dictates your votes on everything
—Doing nothing while a sociopath separated families, caged babies, and deported their parents
—Allowing someone profoundly mentally unfit to run as your nominee and then assume the office of the Presidency; endangering National and global security every minute of every day for 4 years
—Letting his daughter & son-in-law work in the WH (and somehow make $640 million)
—Allowing someone compromised by our enemies to receive top secret national security briefings & access to the nuclear codes
—Letting him hide his tax returns while calling him “the most transparent POTUS in history”
—Not questioning him siding with Putin over U.S. Intel agencies
—Letting him violate the emoluments clause by profiting off the Presidency in every way
—Ignoring his corruption of the judiciary and installment of loyalists at the Pentagon and DOJ to shield himself from accountability
—Letting him brand the press “the enemy of the people”
—Using Trump to erode Americans’ ability to discern fact from fiction through endless gaslighting
—Emboldening domestic terrorist groups like the Proud Boys while screaming about nonexistent ones like “Antifa”
—Continuing to downplay the risk of COVID & create vaccine hesitancy

“Qualified immunity” is what has enabled police officers to virtually never be held accountable or face consequences for breaking the very laws that their job is to enforce and has allowed thousands of them to literally get away with murder.

GET. RID. OF. QUALIFIED. IMMUNITY.
The entire concept of qualified immunity makes no sense unless the goal is to give the people in charge of enforcing the laws a license to break them. Its origins are of course rooted in racism and were to enable police—who were initially slave patrols—to do just that. Abolish it
If anything, members of law enforcement should be held to HIGHER standards when it comes to following the laws. Qualified immunity is built in to police union contracts; and serves to disincentivize them from doing that because they know they will almost never face consequences.

I’ve never understood the appeal of guns. People I know have tried to explain it to me and I still can’t. Like unless you’re a hunter or something, why do you want something that discharges small pieces of metal at speeds that can kill or permanently dismember/injure someone?
They’re like “what if someone breaks into your house?” and I’m like “I wouldn’t want to kill them over a break in, unless they broke in to try and kill me or my fiance. And even THEN, I’d want them subdued so they could be prosecuted and face consequences that are non-lethal.
I feel like it’s a compensation thing. Guns make insecure men feel more secure the same way a giant truck, expensive sports car, or a sock stuffed in their pants would. They sell the illusion of security when in reality they’re more likely to kill themselves or a family member.

The @GOP is not the party of family values, fiscal conservatism, religious freedom, or anything even remotely resembling morality. @mattgaetz admitting to raping a minor made me realize we need a list of all Republicans who've been credibly accused of sexual misconduct (THREAD)
Let’s start with the ones who actually faced SOME degree of accountability for their illicit behavior and work up to those who still somehow occupy seats in the House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, the Supreme Court, or the halls of Mar-a-Lago instead of a prison cell.
1.) Pat Meehan resigned on April 27, 2018, after months of misconduct allegations. Meehan used taxpayer money to pay off a former aide who accused him of sexual harassment. She claimed he tried to start a romantic relationship with her and became hostile when she rejected him.

When I was younger, people oftened dismiss my political takes by saying “you just think that because your parents are Democrats.” While they certainly had an influence, my parents were all about letting my brother and I reach our own conclusions on things like religion & politics
This meant not only did I get to celebrate Christmas AND Hanukkah (until ultimately choosing Christmas solely on the basis that we generally got more than 8 gifts); I was given the chance to take a pretty impartial objective look at Democrats and Republicans from a very early age
The thing that stood out most to me from as far back as I can remember was how Democrats and left-leaning media outlets tried to tell the truth about most things; or at the very least answer the question they were asked; while Republicans & right-wing media did the exact opposite

.@LeaderMcConnell: the filibuster started as a tool to uphold slavery and then became a mechanism to block civil rights legislation. It was created to preserve slavery against the march of progress and a growing majority of both states and Americans who wanted to abolish slavery.
The filibuster did not exist until the mid-19th century; well after the Founding Fathers. James Madison was an ardent opponent of even the notion of it. The individual credited with the introduction of the filibuster was was John C. Calhoun, the father of the Confederacy.
Calhoun invented the filibuster for the specific purpose of empowering slave owners and suppressing what was gaining traction as a superior economic model in the North. So he started to innovate forms of obstruction that became the filibuster. It was 100% rooted in racism.

—Treason
—Corruption
—Organized Crime
—White supremacy
—Domestic Terrorism

—Banning of entire religions
—Baseless lies and racist anti-semitic conspiracy theories
—The destruction of the planet

—Tax cuts for the rich
—Voter suppression, gerrymandering, & foreign attacks on our elections
