China has reportedly approached several African countries for the right to open a naval base for Chinese surface ships and submarines thousands of miles which could prove to be problematic for U.S. forces in wartime.
The countries are Nigeria, Namibia and Mauritius as China seeks to expanding the reach of its naval forces. China already has a naval base, in Djibouti, which is now the home of several hundred Chinese marines.
China recently tried to sign an agreement to establish a naval base in Tanzania. At the same time, such bases would also be useful in a potential conflict with the U.S. If a war broke out tomorrow.
China, for all its wealth and the rapid growth of its navy, has few places to send its fleet worldwide. Unlike the U.S. Navy which has a fleet for each of the worlds seven oceans and can count on a global network of military allies.

In the last three decades France has carried out military interventions in Benin, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Gabon, Madagascar, Mauritania, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo, and Zaire.
France has also been at loggerheads with its allies. The French by nature have an outsized ego. They resented the fact the United States was forced to clean out Europes mess twice in 2 world wars. They presence of U.S troops in Normand hurt their pride.
Resentments grew during the Suez Canal crises. They once pulled out of NATO. During our civil war French covert support on the side of the separatists drew the ire of London, who didnt take lightly French desire to breakup the biggest Anglophone state in Africa.
Nigerians, by and large, are a flag waving bunch. We celebrate our nation, even as we acknowledge what bad leadership and corruption have bedeviled the country. Our embrace of patriotism also makes it a potent weapon.
However coming under attack by @beegeaglesblog , for being "hyper patriotic", calling this page a propaganda handle.Tweeting Nnamdi Kalu's IPOB propaganda, leaves me with no choice than to come to the defence of patriotism rather than trade words with you.
As far as im concerned patriotism, not hate, not jealousy, not envy is the best antidote to Nigeria's growing divisiveness. As a defence blogger one would think you of all people will be happy peoples disposition towards the military is begining to change.
Nigeria is building the best integrated networks of sattelites, land and sea based radars along with sophisticated aircraft overhead to detect and track targets on land and sea. We have Boko Haram and sea pirates to thank for this.
For years the Nigerian Navy’s Rear Admiral Henry Babalola warned there were “blind arcs” in Nigeria's territorial waters and the entire Gulf of Guinea, a huge security problem that will be solved if RMAC was complemented with the Falcon Eye surveillance project.
In June 2016, the Nigerian Navy finally began operating the Israeli designed UAE built Falcon Eye maritime surveillance system for operations across the Gulf of Guinea. One of the most sophisticated maritime surveillance platform of its class in the world.
The 2018 Nigeria Defence Posture Review saw the Nigerian military's
formal adoption of smart firepower with extended range. The military understood that when munitions provide first shot accuracy with low collateral damage, mission success and increase greatly
This informed the decision to replace frontline weapons with an entirely new class of weapons system. For the NAF the Alpha jet and F-7Ni fighter replaced with the A-29 Super Tucano with PGMs and JF-17 fighters. With the aforementioned aircrafts acting in supporting roles
The NAF Attack Reconnaisance Squadron will consist of Wing Loong II, CH-4 and CH-3B armed attack drones.
