1/ /THREAD/ A good house is built on a solid foundation. #radix#dfinity
Blockchain and DLT technology provide a platform for many amazing apps, technologies and ideas to be built. From decentralised hosting to exchanges, loans and supply chains the possibilities are endless.
2/Some people may not immediately realise the significance of what has been done here on Cassandra. This is not just 'games on radix' for the sake of it this is a proof of concept showing how Cerberus protocol can be widely applied to many use cases that people don't even realise
3/ Here's where the comparison to #dfinity comes in. An important part of Dfinity's technology is a blockchain layer which supports their cloud computer. Technically this blockchain could be replaced by another ledger or blockchain.
4/ The blockchain Dfinity uses is comprised of subnets which function in a similar manner to shards, sidechains and subnets of other blockchain projects.
5/ One feature of these subnets is they can communicate with each other however cross subnet communication is asynchronous and calls between subnets take time. There is also no atomic composability between different subnets.
6/ Dfinity also uses cannisters which are essentially smart contracts. All cannisters on Dfinity can communicate with each other however as mentioned earlier cross subnet communication is asynchronous.
7/ This means if cannisters are communicating with cannisters on different subnets there will be some latency. This latency will cause limitations in some cases
8/ These limitations could theoretically be resolved by using a ledger based on Cerberus instead of a blockchain. This would allow better communication between cannisters on different subnets and no more high latency
9/ In the twitch stream an example of this idea was demonstrated. Different parts of the website were hosted by different shards (these would be subnets on Dfinity). twitch.tv/videos/1019156…
10/ Parts of website and game were distributed across multiple shards and all interacted with each other in order for the game and website to function correctly in real time, atomic composability is what allows this to happen.
11/ Using a blockchain would mean there is latency between different parts of the website. Parts on different shards or subnets would not be working together smoothly, the game wouldn't synchronize correctly with text or images on the page
12/ Now going back to dfinity we can see why this is a useful feature it would allow everything to be much better distributed and also allows the whole network to interoperate with much fewer limitations.
13/ This proof of concept shows that in the future a similar platform could be built on top of Radix/Cassandra using Cerberus as a consensus mechanism and replacing the blockchain portion.
The hosted website is a live example of this!
14/ Now Dfinity is still an impressive project but the key takeaway here is that L1 platforms are the foundations which everything else is built upon. The better the L1 the better the "everything else" will perform.
15/ The power behind a well designed L1 is that it can be adapted to many usecases if need be. This could be Uniswap, Aave, compound, supply chains, NFTs, video streaming or even something like Dfinity.
16/ People often understate the importance of a L1 not realising that everything is built on top of the L1. A consensus protocol like Cerberus revolutionises a lot more than people realise it does.

CRYPTO MEGATHREAD - #CASSANDRA #Radix $eXRD Research project
Still unknown to many, Cassandra is one of the most significant ongoing research projects in the crypto-space today. The findings from Cassandra will have a huge impact on the future of digital currencies and DeFi.
R&D IN CRYPTO
R&D has always been a significant part of the development of Radix. Other large projects in the crypto-space such as #cardano and #Dfinity have also realised the importance of R&D and have been rightfully praised for taking a scientific approach to development.
Building prototypes and testing them is a major part of a proper R&D cycle. The benefits of building a prototype can be seen in the case of #polkadot's #kusama network.
