I’ve been speaking to a lot of 20 somethings all week. 13 different convos from the gym, to volunteers, to Office Depot. Cnclusion? You people who swear this generation is so sharp must be defensive as parents because these kids are woefully uninformed, uncurious,
disinterested, and utterly lost in a social media morass of runaway mediocrity. You may have raised exceptions, or think you have, but this country is generating a LOT of hapless dopes.
But go ahead and say it’s just my generation crapping on the one before. Except that I crap on my own a a lot. It allowed this to happen. But it has happened, and denying it is a really bad idea. We need to fix it, not pretend it never happened. It happened. We’re dumb.
And THAT is why people keep voting for Republicans. Because they are just too swayed by simplistic emotional arguments that appeal to voters with very unsophisticated—typically uneducated—thinking. Sorry, but the evidence of that is all around us. We’re drowning in it.
I spent 2 hours last night reading the feeds of some very popular @instagram accounts. It was like being immersed in an alien civilization where everyone acts like an imbecile, while the genuine imbeciles tell them what they believe in—or should believe in. Depressing.

I’ve said for years that we’re post electoral politics and it’s bizarre that we’re just allowing a clearly seditionist movement to flourish while we dither.
The author, @perrybaconjr says “We have 4 huge problems. I don’t see solutions to any of them.”
@perrybaconjr Our system of government is now completely broken and it has no constitutional tools with which to fix itself. The founders left gaping holes for evil people to seize our process, and we are living under a mass delusion that a process can fix it. It cannot. But we must.
No matter you try to game-out where our society is heading, nor what assumptions you use, it’s hard to find room for optimism. We’ve have turned our civilization over to oligarchs—and their mass media—that will always be able to influence us. We have very few weapons.
And yet we still remained locked into this mindset that only “peaceful change” will serve our interests. How can anyone assume that, when almost all pivotal events influencing the evolution of our modern world were all violent events. It’s curious and suspicious to me.
I mean think about it. Is not what Republicans are now doing the same kind of bullying of the people that dictators and ruling classes have always done? But they have become such a cult, with such enormous media reach, that they make anti-democracy sound like democracy.
So, after getting a new phone, Black lady pulls up beside me in a shiny new F-150. She has gorgeous, natural eyelashes. I roll down window and say to my new friend Wanda, “Excuse me. I just love your eyes. May I ask a personal question?”
Wanda: “Sure, but lemme 1/5
guess first. Who do I look like a normal person and not some crazy fucking alien skeeze with brooms stuck to my eyelids and some cheap-ass lace on my head?”
Me: “Nailed it.”
Both: “LOLing.”
Me: “So what’s up with that look? I never begrudge someone’s fashion 2/5
choices, but I don’t get the appeal.”
Wanda: “No one does, darling. Let me tell you, I own a salon, I’ll never get it. I told one customer to GTFO cause I couldn’t do nuthin’ for her. Some bitches wanna be ugly I guess.”
.@offerup Your user experience blows chunks and it’s your fault. You have 1000s of devices listed without THE MOST BASIC info such as “model number, size, etc.” If you just urged sellers to photograph the item name-plates, you’d quadruple your sales. #PreventableLameness
@offerup Our increasingly uneducated society can rarely think though the most basic things anymore. Even when it’s in their own interests. As a service provider, it’s your obligation to think for them if it helps them AND you. Everyone wins.
@offerup It is no exaggeration to say that I have wasted dozens of hours trying to contact users and get them to report things such as “model? Screen size? Storage? CPU?” And what makes it all the worse is you have zillions of listings that are months or YEARS out of date.
When you talk to most of your friends who were once Republicans, few of them are overt racists or greedy pricks. They were people raised with a set of beliefs that only time and life experience altered. No one wants a lifetime of beliefs to be upended by craven
opportunists. I think it’s good strategy to acknowledge their right to have had sincere beliefs, however wrong, and stoke their resentment over having their only party affiliation hijacked by unabashed zealots with no interest in disguising who they are.
Only15 years ago, it was common to hear both Democrats and Republicans say “I’m socially liberal but fiscally conservative.” Whether how they were raised or informed by their lives, such fence straddlers found homes in both parties. And it’s hard to leave home.
It felt @alivelshi was almost going to call them #FakeRepublicans this morning, during one of his typical righteous rants. I hope he does. Just think of the questions & narratives that those two simple words enable? What other two words do the same (across the aisle)?
@AliVelshi Think about it. There’s a reason why @radiofreetom, @timodc@jrubinblogger and so many others bailed from the GOP. They may have partly come to realize that their party always contained these insane racist actors, but they were at the fringe (in their minds,
@AliVelshi@RadioFreeTom@Timodc@JRubinBlogger anyway). It was the sudden surge of success by the Trumpist zealots who seized the Republican label and party that made staying in the party untenable for them. They weren’t driven out by factional ideologues. They were driven out by ruthless, power-hungry
