#EfeméridesSísmicas #UnDíaComoHoy El 13 de agosto de 1868 a las 16:00 hrs se produjo un #terremoto M 8.5 (aprox) al sur de Perú, que produjo un #tsunami que arrasó las costas entre Pisco e Iquique y cruzó el océano Pacífico, alcanzando las costas de Nueva Zelanda.
Para cuando ocurrió este terremoto Arica estaba bajo la soberanía peruana. Sin embargo, sus brutales efectos quedaron patentes en varias zonas de la ciudad hasta finales del siglo XIX, cuando ya integraba el territorio chileno.
Este terremoto habría dejado "casi seiscientos muertos. 212 de ellos eran marineros que estaban en barcos de la bahía, mientras que los restantes 385 vivían en la ciudad. Arica tenía entonces casi 40 mil habitantes.
