we often downplay that scene for laughs because wwx had been playing with ants and wasn't really upset about going home earlier but i think that could be the moment where lwj realized he really cared about wwx because he should be happy that troublemaker was leaving his clan.
if not happy then at least relieved the boy who enjoyed teasing, pestering and making fun of him, trying to get reactions out of lwj was finally going away but no, he only thought about how wwx must be feeling, if he would be in trouble and what could lwj do to help. it's so π₯Ί
back then lwj wasn't the type to act impulsively (at least tried not to) but he had no plan formed when he reached out for wwx. if wwx /had/ been crying maybe he'd put a hand on his shoulder, tell him it'd be okay, offer to talk to his uncle? he didn't know and he still did it.
and that's what love is about: putting the other person first when they need it, taking risks without planning beforehand, reaching out and knowing someone will hold you on the other side. lwj loves in such a pure, earnest way, it always hits me so hard when i think about it.
