Marcus Jones of Houston makes his first visit to the place where his school friend George Floyd died. He didn’t know it was the anniversary of his friend’s murder. But this was the day he decided to stop his truck on one of his long-distance drives across the country.
George Floyd Square, on the eve the anniversary of his death at the hands of ex-police officer Derek Chauvin.

BREAKING: shots appear to have been fired at George Floyd Square. Quiet now. People still sheltering in place.
We heard a few dozens sounds of what appear to have been shots fired on this block. Everyone sheltered in place. Lots of running. No apparent need for medics. Will update. Image
From our vantage point we see one broken window, apparently from one of the shots fired. Consensus among reporters here at George Floyd Square was that we heard anywhere between a dozen and two dozen shots fired.

Court is back in session in the Derek Chauvin trial. The former Minneapolis police officer is in the courtroom, wearing a grey suit and a black mask. Jury selection still set to begin at 9 AM CT.
Jury selection could still be delayed if a higher court decision is made on whether a third degree murder charge will be reinstated. For now, things proceed as set out by the district judge yesterday.
Until 9 AM CT motions can be discussed by attorneys, as is the case right now.

Here's some more of what Luxembourg Foreign Minister Asselborn said:

- "Mister Trump is a criminal, a political pyromaniac who should be sent to criminal court. He's a person who was elected democratically but who isn't interested in democracy in the slightest."
More from Luxembourg Foreign Minister Asselborn's interview on 7 January:

- "The 6th of January 2021 was a 9/11 attack on democracy itself, and Trump was the one who egged it on."

Just another day at the White House. Today, Trump will be awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to golfers Annika Sorenstam and Gary Player, as well as Olympic athlete Babe Zaharias. Nothing to see here. Image
And White House staffers are still happily wandering around the complex, mask-less of course.
Meanwhile, here’s the view from inside the @Potbelly across from the White House. Image
