The GhostEzra channel, which has 335k members, whas gone from Antisemitic to holocaust denialism in less than a week. It is also networking the QAnon adherents in that channel to more extre groups on Telegram. It has become a hub for radicalization
What is important is that there is no channel on terrogram, no nazi channel, no white supremacist channel that has tens of thousands of members, nevermind 335k. GhostEzra (and a few others) are introducing violent extremist ideologies to a large pool of extremists.
This could still be called an emerging trend, there was always antisemitism, or elements of in QAnon, but the type of content being shared in the GhostEzra channel is not the norm and has taken very extreme turns
The networking of ecosystems on telegram is what has been of concern to me since QAnon and MAGA accounts were deplatformed en masse. Early on the more extreme actors sought to recruit parler and twitter refuges. But now they are sharing narratives with each other.
As QAnon has slowly adopted more extreme narratives, violent extremism actors have adopted more salient conspriscu theories. There is a symbiotic relationship that has formed, and not for the better.
This is the consequence of deplstforming and it is one that needs to be recognized and dealt with. Not deplstforming these actors would have had its own set on consequences but that is neither here or there. A choice was made and now we are beginning TOS we the consequences.
GhostEzra is the first or probably many, the question is what the account and those in it already prone to these narratives and telegram makes them feel safe to speak their minds? Or are more extreme actors taking advantage of the large pool of newcomers?
More importantly what can be done? There are no ways to introduce friction on toeegram like you could on larger platforms, there are no trust and safety teams, there are no counter narratives or alternative voices. If online is not a viable option are there offline solutions?
I don't necessarily have the answers but these are questions we need to ask ourselves. We need to be proactive and not reactive about this emerging trend.

.@jaredlholt buddy I love you but I have a snall bone to pick with you about this latest report of yours. Its good BUUUUT "QAnon’s hallmark catchphrases evaporating from the mainstream internet" link.medium.com/wlCazaZHzgb
From a methodological perspective what was measured I don't think is too much of a problem however I think it is important to take note that the data sources that were used are not complete. The report does acknowledge that is not using data from telegram however that is a flaw.
Telegram plays an important role in the QAnon ecosystem, not only in the US but transnationally currently there are over 600 qanon telegram channels. The volume of content there might challenge the finding that qanon is not able to Outpost it's counterparts on mainstream media.

1/ For those who missed my @GNET_research panel I'm going to share my slides here with some of my comments on how violent extremist organizations have leveraged the COVID-19 pandemic. Image
2/ early analysis in 2020 raised two points, the COVID-19 health restrictions would likely have an impact on offline recruitment from VEOs, while simultaneously boosting their efforts at recruiting online. Image
3/ Was online recruitment successful is something that is difficult to answer and I have yet to find any convincing findings about this as we cannot talk about recruitment in the traditional sense.

1/ This users post is a terrifyingly good example of someone who has truly radicalized into QAnon. lets take a quick look at the signs of what he describes as "growing spiritually" and detaching from mainstream society.
2/ First, the description of his radicalization process is very similar to a religious conversion in this case. From his post it is not only about being pilled as he's "been awake for 10 years". QAnon has given him a new religious experience in a way.
3/ Some key signs of what he is describing might be something you'd notice if someone you know if going a little too far down the rabbit hole. No longer interested in topics that they were passionate about. In this case the user is no longer into college football as he was before

1/ Been playing catch up on my reading, both of primary material and books on extremist, conspiracy theories and religion. First 4 months of the year were quite productive, though not as productive as I hoped (thanks concussion).

With Lin Wood causing chaos with the South Carolina GOP it's important to remember that he is openly a QAnon believer and an important neo-QAnon influencer. Unlike established d'influences in QAnon wood has pushed the narrative forward creating new conspriscies for adherents.
His telegram channel has 835,000 followers, it is the largest QAnon channel, followed by Sidney Powell with her 500,000 followers. The channel administered by 38 OG QAnon influencers has only 210,000. Wood has more followers on telegram than all the QAnon groups on Gab.
Woods influence comes from 3 vectors: 1) his proximity to the Former president, 2) his position of power and influence as a lawyer and 3) he hasn't told QAnon followers to stand by and wait, but provided new avenues of investigation and conspiracy, this providing participation

1/ My colleagues @Blyth_Crawford @FlorenceKeen and @hannah1_rose and I have been working on this massive report for weeks to provide insight into the state of domestics violent extremism after the first 100 days of the Biden administration. Here is what we found:
2/ We applied a mixed methods approach, leveraging data scientific methods and digital ethonography, in an effort to better understand MAGA-related groups, movements, and narratives both prior to and after Biden’s inauguration.
3/ It examines the various groups and movements that gained momentum under the administration, the key discourses and motivations of those that were a part of the 6 January insurrection, and how these have evolved.
