JFC Republicans want to put $350m that should go to K-12 Education into the Budget Stabilization Fund instead of directly to DPI & schools. This plan puts federal COVID aid for our schools at risk, & even worse — there is no guarantee that it will ever actually go to our kids 1/
After this $350m goes into the Budget Stabilization Fund, there is no requirement that it later be used for education. If do want to spend it, the Legislature would need to pass a brand-new bill appropriating that money. 2/
The Republicans' motion on K12 Education is two pages. Two. The Dem motion, which supports @GovEvers#BadgerBounceback plan to support our kids, is 13 pages. What is missing? 3/
The GOP removed:
❌ Increased general aids to districts
❌ Restored 2/3 funding
❌ Increased per pupil aid
❌ 50% state funding for special ed
❌ Tens of millions in sparsity aid
❌ Increased bilingual funding
❌ Increased school nutrition funding
❌ Millions for mental health
4/
There is plenty more beyond this. And here is the thing: the GOP will talk about how this plan invests in education, but families and students still reeling from COVID-19 will feel the difference. 5/
Hungry kids will feel the difference in the middle of their lessons. Students will notice when arts education is cut. Kids struggling with mental health will feel the lack of investment in resources to help them. Students of color, in poverty, in crisis, are failed today. 6/
Republicans campaigned on supporting our kids and our schools, but clearly the desire to stick it to Gov. Evers is greater than their commitment to our kids. 7/7
