SICK: The U.N.’s World Health Organization elects Syria’s Assad regime, which bombs its own people in hospitals, to its Executive Board. I urge U.N. chief @antonioguterres & WHO director @DrTedros to denounce this insult to the millions of Assad victims.
Regimes of Syria and Belarus elected to @WHO Executive Board.
"In the General Committee’s opinion these 12 Members would provide, if elected, a balanced distribution of the Board as a whole."
Electing Syria to govern the world's top health body is like hiring a pyromaniac to be the town fire chief.
Syria’s Assad regime systematically bombs hospitals and clinics, killing doctors, nurses, and others as they care for the sick and injured.
Health professionals have also been arrested, disappeared, imprisoned, tortured and executed. Electing this murderous regime to govern the world’s top health body is an insult to Assad’s millions of victims, and sends a terrible message.
.@WHOSyria How can you make this announcement like it's normal, when over the past 10 years in Syria there were 598 attacks on health care facilities and personnel, 350 health care facilities were targeted, and 930 medical professionals were killed?
“Madam President: The United Nations was founded to prevent war. Yet today’s one-sided session, and the pre-determined investigation it proposes, will achieve the opposite — because they were the very purpose of this war.“
My intervention at yesterday's Orwellian UNHRC session.
“The purpose of Hamas, backed by Iran, was to attack Israeli cities from within populated areas in Gaza, to incur civilian casualties, and exploit the suffering of their own people -- in order to delegitimize Israel, here at the UN, in international courts, and in the media.“
“A council for human rights ought to condemn what Hamas is doing.“
The IBA staffer organizing the event, Sara Elizabeth Dill @_SEDill, is an anti-Israel activist who routinely accuses the Jewish state of "atrocities" yet has never once condemned terrorist Hamas or Islamic Jihad for targeting civilians. twitter.com/search?q=from%…
When @SecBlinken spoke about Yom Hashoah & Holocaust remembrance, this IBA Arab Region staffer complained: "And yet they have the audacity to speak against the ICC & question its jurisdiction over modern day war crimes & genocide."
For some people, any good news about Israel is a problem. It disturbs their worldview, and makes them angry. And so their reaction to this year's good news about Israel’s vaccines was to twist it into something sinister.
My debate at UNHRC's 46th session:
"The canard that began to circulate was summarized by the comic TV news presenter on Saturday Night Live, who said, “Israel is reporting that they've vaccinated half their population — and I'm going to guess it's the Jewish half.”
"This is exactly what many around the world now believe.
Madam President, I am taking the floor today to state for the record, before the United Nations, and before the world: That is a lie."
.@unicefchief Henrietta Holsman Fore was forced to resign as trustee from Wellesley College in 1987 over racist remarks she made about the work ethics of blacks, Hispanics & Asians.
.@nytimes: "Ms. Holsman reiterated her statement that she had trouble keeping black assembly-line workers from going 'back to the street to earn more money' selling drugs."
