1/ As Hong Kong slides ever deeper into authoritarianism, with the media, courts and arts scene being censored and repressed, more young people make the difficult choice to flee the city…
2/ We must ensure their safety, to preserve and protect the spirit and people of Hong Kong
Exodus of young people from Hong Kong.
Under the crushing fear of the draconian security law, young people are reluctantly leaving Hong Kong in droves to find safety & freedom elsewhere.
3/ STAND WITH HONG KONG 🇭🇰
In particular, activists and anyone associated with the pro-democracy movement in the city simply do not feel safe anymore in their home city.
The National Security Law is already being used to target key figures like Joshua Wong and media tycoon Jimmy Lai, whose assets were also recently frozen under the new legislation…
5/ These campaigns of harassment against high profile individuals, are deliberately formulated to strike fear into the hearts of anyone else who might dare to disagree with the authorities….
6/ STAND WITH HONG KONG 🇭🇰
Areas like Greater Manchester, Birmingham, and Reading have become hotspots for those escaping the rise in authoritarianism, with thousands of Hongkongers using the UK’s British National (Overseas) visa scheme as a lifeline…
STAND WITH HONG KONG 🇭🇰
8/ But those who are not eligible to follow this route still need protection. The protest movement in Hong Kong was overwhelmingly driven by young people, many of whom do not qualify for BNO status…
STAND WITH HONG KONG 🇭🇰
9/ The government must ensure options for these brave young Hongkongers to seek refuge and live free from fear. Write to your MP today and ask them to leave no young activists behind who desperately need our support.
10/ Patriots only, the new normal for Hong Kong’s politics
Eddie Chu, a former pro-democracy lawmaker in the Legislative Council, has become the latest casualty in Beijing’s full frontal assault on political freedom in Hong Kong
11/ Chu, an environmental activist once dubbed the “king of votes” after winning the largest number of ballots in the 2016 LegCo elections, has announced that he is giving up on politics, fearing that he “may not enjoy freedom for a long period.” scmp.com/news/hong-kong…
Chu, along with 46 other pro-democracy politicians and activists, has been charged with “conspiracy to commit subversion” under the national security law, after taking part in a popular, unofficial pro-democracy primary to prepare for the now cancelled 2020 LegCo General Election
Chu’s departure signals yet another high-profile, pro-democracy lawmaker subdued into silence by the Chinese Communist Party’s full force crackdown on all dissenting voices following a string of similar resignations across Hong Kong’s democracy movement since the turn of the year
STAND WITH HONG KONG
UK Govt must do more to support Hong Kong as its defenders endure this new era of authoritarian rule. It’s overdue for the UK to implement Magnitsky-style sanctions on Hong Kong & Chinese officials complicit in violating Hong Kong’s autonomy…
STAND WITH HONG KONG 🇭🇰
Eddie Chu and other brave Hongkongers may have resigned their politics - and indeed their fate - but we cannot abandon our moral, historical obligation to the people of Hong Kong.
Arts scene in Hong Kong has long been an established sector to reflect Hongkongers’ creativity & freedom-loving spirit. nytimes.com/2021/05/20/wor…
STAND WITH HONG KONG 🇭🇰
Arts scene in Hong Kong has long been an established sector to reflect Hongkongers’ creativity and freedom-loving spirit. Hence it is not surprising the scene is becoming the newest victim of CCP’s stifling crackdown.
As the protest movement in Hong Kong has been repressed, defiant Hongkongese artists are looking at new ways to fight for the history and culture of Hong Kong as a free city with a global outlook to not be silenced.
Activists “hijacked” Art Basel Hong Kong over the weekend by installing four miniature Lady Liberty statues around the exhibition, and the art work is titled as There’s No Art Without Freedom
The original Lady Liberty – which stands four-meter tall and depicts a protester in a gas mask, goggles, and a helmet – was installed atop Kowloon’s Lion Rock in October 2019.
The authorities know this however, children’s clothing chain Chickeeduck was raided by the police earlier this month as their stores display protest themed artworks.
Art fairs and the city’s new M+ Museum of visual culture facing censorship which demonstrates the terrifying new normal China is enforcing in Hong Kong.

@GoodLawProject More shocking PPE contract revelations: 28 May 2021
1/ Government gets a bona fide PPE offer from a would be supplier. The company has sourced the PPE, submitted a bid and passed through the technical checks….
2/ They’re close to signing on the dotted line. But at the eleventh hour they get dropped. Instead, Government buys the same thing from someone else. Someone who came in later but with close connections to Cabinet Ministers - and at an eye watering price….
3/ This is a story we have heard, with close variants, again and again. But Government secrecy means we haven’t been able to corroborate it - until now.
1/ The DWP is facing at least 3 court actions relating to the deaths of benefits claimants at the same time as the BBC has revealed that the department has carried out 150 internal reviews into the death or serious harm to claimants
2/ Philippa Day’s family are suing the DWP & Capita for breaches of her human rights & the harm both Philippa & her family suffered as the result of the way her PIP claim was dealt with.
3/ Philippa took her own life after her DLA was wrongly stopped & she was required to attend a PIP face-to-face assessment, in spite of experiencing mental health issues including emotionally unstable personality disorder, anxiety, depression & agoraphobia benefitsandwork.co.uk/news/4332-fina…
1/ How’s that levelling up going up North @BorisJohnson ?
Not well at all.
Johnson’s Govt stalling on Northern Powerhouse Rail (what’s that be Ed?)
& funding cuts have angered Northern leaders.
.
The Leeds-Manchester electrification, promised by 2018, still remains in limbo...
2/ Further blows to the Northern Powerhouse include @BorisJohnson Tory Government preparing train service cuts to avoid building Manchester Piccadilly’s extra &800 million platform, also promised by 2018...
3/ And with Northern Transport’s budget halved (less £105 million) @BorisJohnson Tory Govt has scuppered a planned Manchester region wide electronic ticketing system (like London’s oyster) despite pledging in 2011, that such would be a available by 2014 manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-m…
3/ Mohamud's family are fighting for justice. You can support them by donating to their crowd justice fund to help them pay for legal representation and independent investigators. #Justice4MohamudHassan
1/ More PPE that can’t be used by the NHS - yet another Govt contract entered into with Florida jeweller Saiger, worth £36 million, for face masks, most of which are unusable.
Look no further than Toby Young, his so called ‘Free Speech Union’, a cover for Alt-right lobby network which has invested considerable effort in normalising racist pseudoscience, platforming white identity politics.
@MalcolmNeeds54@lifeintheday55@mrjamesob Young’s alt-right website Lockdownsceptics.org a wealth of conspiratorial pseudoscientific disinformation around the COVID pandemic, encouraging the public to flout protective public health guidelines designed to keep people safe
