I am proud to be indigenous... (A thread)... I am Metis. I was born Amanda Cardinal. Our family did not live on a reserve. They lived on the Wolf Lake Metis settlement. I wish I knew more. I truly wish I could go back in time and write down everything my Kokom...
...had told me. She told amazing stories. She was married young to my Mosom Charlie. He was a tall and handsome man. Here is a picture of them on their wedding day... Together they had a whole lotta children....
Here are my uncles and Aunties. (This does not include the three that passed away at a young age, and the two youngest daughter's who were not born yet.) My mom is in the front middle. She is 17 here and pregnant with me...yay Mom! ❤️...
This is in a history book somewhere. My Kokom is Gladys:
This is the 2nd page with a picture of the whole family, including my 2 youngest Aunties. The bottom left is my cousin and I with our great Kokom Flora. I am the baby screaming on the right.
My family, and my ancestors made many sacrifices so I could be here today. Our family tree goes as far back as the early 1800's all here on what is now Alberta soil. How cool is that!?... #IndigenousPeoples #Metis#Cardinal
There is great history on the land we live on. Let's allow ourselves to learn what we can, and share our stories. So this history will not be forgotten.
Lets be mindful of our earth and our impact on it.
Let's take care of our elders. After all... They paved our way...❤️ Hiy Hiy
*I realized after I checked and rechecked, I made a mistake. My two youngest Aunties were actually born when that first family picture was taken. They were young, and not sure why they weren't in that picture. My Momma corrected me. Oops.
