Officially, France has 46 clusters and “around 100” cases of the Indian variant. But the govt admits that its capacity for identifying it is weak. Travellers from UK must now isolate for 7 days. Non-EU, non-residents cannot enter France from UK without overwhelming reason.

That worry apart (and it’s a genuine anxiety) France is doing just fine, Madame la Marquise. To all those (like me) who thought Pres. Macron had unlocked France too early: “we were wrong and Macron was right”.

All key Covid numbers in France – cases, deaths, acute care, incidence rate – have fallen for the 6th week.
The incidence rate – number of cases per 100,000 people/7 days – is now 91, below the alert level. Paris is 118. Only two départements Cote d’Or and Loire are 150+ 4/7

Patients in acute care - the metric most watched by the government – have fallen to 2,825 (505 down in a week).
Just over a month ago, on 26 April, it was 6,001.
The daily average of new cases in last 7 days was 9,731, after 10,729 last week. 5/7

Deaths are averaging 111.8 a day, after 119.8, 157 and 221 in previous weeks.
The French vax drive continues apace. By tonight over 50% of the adult population (52m) will have been first-vaxxed. France should hit its 15 June target of 30m 1st vaxes 3 or 4 days early.
