I hate all the companies that advertise on YouTube -- that soap guy, "manscaped", all the financial market scammers
The Amazon sellers...Are they making huge bank off of this crap?
I guess YouTube may have an interest in having the ads be annoying to sell more premium subscriptions. But the brands have an interest in not being annoying.
The soap guy is somehow semiotically powerful, though; some esoteric message about the persistent potency of white male assholery being conveyed there

“It’s some of the most shoddy, methodologically flawed research we’ve ever seen published in these journals,” the doctor in the Zoom meeting said, “with sensational conclusions that seem totally unjustified from the results of the study.”bariweiss.substack.com/p/what-happens…
Recall debates I had in 2019 with folx smugly assuring me that the scope of wokeness would remain confined to universities and cultural bureaucracies.
It was always going to infect critical disciplines like medicine.
Many new forms of activism will as a certainty inflict "total disaster", help no one, and accrue a large body count of those who might otherwise have lived as those pushing for them congratulate themselves on pursuing justice bariweiss.substack.com/p/what-happens…
Reminder that the most thoroughgoing critique of the 1619 Project came from the World Socialist Website
The Trots have their own idiosyncratic line that has in recent years led them into a general anti-PC stance....however, the critique of the project was substantive and painstaking wsws.org/en/topics/even…
What a lot of folks seem to do is wait until the conservative enemy appears on the field of battle and fight them.
Case to be made that conservatives largely exist to consolidate support for certain positions by signaling through their opposition what must be supported...
Both the MAGA and the equity agendas are deconstructed by the existence of a non-white immigrant group that outperforms all native groups, including whites, on certain key metrics.
Both of those tweets are trolls working out the inconsistent inner logic of two ways of looking at something that resists simple partisan framing -- and that calls on us to think harder....
Sorry guys, I'm sure you know MAGA types that are not bigots or xenophobes and only care about the legality of immigration.
But a movement that seeks to end birthright citizenship is taking a big step beyond that.
Did they purposely choose a guy named "Loving" for Loving vs Virginia?
The law allowing Virginia to imprison interracial couples for marrying was invalidated by the Supreme Court in 1967 -- 7 years before I was born in St. Louis.
That this was surprising to me was an indicator of how my racial innocence was preserved by the educational system.
Learning about the scope and persistence of institutional racism does not, however, mean that I should, must, or do agree that objectivity and "worship of the written word" are parts of "white supremacy culture."
