Bernie & Manchin have only cast opposing votes 13% of the time so far this term. But it was closer to 50% over the last few years.
Let's go back & look at some times where Bernie went rogue & voted NO when the Democratic Party voted YES!
(These are just a handful of examples)
Bernie was one of 2 Senators (along with Rand Paul) to vote against Iranian & Russian sanctions in 2017.
Bernie was one of 3 Senators to vote for maintaining the US Embassy in Jerusalem this year.
(1 of the other 2 was Elizabeth Warren)
Bernie voted against a voluntary background check review program for people who work with children or people with disabilities.
Manchin supported it.
In 2018 Bernie voted against flying flags at half-staff for first responders killed in the line of duty.
Manchin supported it.
Bernie twice voted against amending a bill that would allow the White Mountain Apache Tribe to use settlement funds to build and improve their rural water system.
Last week, Bernie was one of 4 Senators to vote against oversight and supply chain transparency.
Bernie was one of 5 senators to vote against the Dept of the Interior providing containers to protect the caskets of veterans buried in National Parks.
Bernie voted against Biden's pick for Secretary of Agriculture, Democrat Thomas Vilsick. The other 7 no's were Republicans.
If you want to play along at home, here's where you can compare the voting records of any two Senators!
Sunrise Movement has been getting a lot of attention in the last few days.
Just a reminder that in addition to everything else problematic about their organization, they have structured themselves to be the exact types of money they proclaim to hate:
π° dark money
π° SuperPAC
Sunrise's organizational status is a 501c4 nonprofit, which is what the term "dark money" almost always refers to in politics!
501c4 nonprofits...
βͺοΈcan take unlimited money from individuals, LLC's, etc
βͺοΈcan have political goals
βͺοΈdo not have to report their donors
And they also have a SuperPAC!
(They're technically a Carey/Hybrid Committee which just means they have both a PAC & a SuperPAC)
SuperPACs...
βͺοΈcan take unlimited money from individuals, LLC's, etc
But SuperPACs are not dark $ because they publicly report all donors to the FEC
I started fact checking a few things in Cori Bush's past and ended up writing 2 max-length threads. Enjoy!
πCori Bush Deep Dive Part 1π
(p1 is her background. p2 is campaign related)
Cori Bush's background eerily parallels AOC's.
And neither of them stand up to scrutiny.
I probably could have learned more about Cori as a person from "Knock Down The House" but you'd have to pry my eyes open like A Clockwork Orange to get me to watch it.
We already know AOC "A girl from the Bronx" actually moved to Westchester County at age 5 & her family owned their house in Yorktown Heights...as well as 1.5 condos in the Bronx, one of which was her campaign address.
Nothing wrong w/that life but SHE told us a different story.
When I wrote this thread on Nov 9, AOC had only filed campaign data through Oct 14. I've been checking back every day to see when the rest of her data became available
Today's the day! π
This thread might not be as EXCITING as the last one but I want to look at her final #'s
