Authorities who were part of a task force that included U.S. marshals shot at Winston Smith as he sat inside a vehicle with a female passenger in Uptown.

Winston Smith was wanted on a state warrant for being a felon in possession of a firearm. During the encounter with law enforcement, the U.S. Marshals Service say he "produced a handgun."
