Why does the Chadian army's mechanized infantry revolve around commercial Toyota 4×4 trucks?

Because in the 80s about 400 Toyota Pickups Defeated One of Africa’s Best Equip Militaries. And they stuck with it ever since.
Yes, when it comes to mobile African warfare, nothing beats the jury-rigged vehicle known as the “technical”. One critical element of Chad’s war against Libya was the use of Toyota Hilux. The Chadians did not have a conventual force, but they were provided with 400 Toyota Hilux
..that could be equipped with anti-tank missiles and heavy machine guns. The Libyan military by contrast was a fearsome, made up of made of tanks, armoured personnel carriers, modern artillery, fixed-wing jets and attack helicopters. The Libyan military on paper were formidable Image
against the Chadians. Yet in the Battle of Fada, in January 1987 a Libyan armoured brigade was wiped out, with about 800 Libyans dead, and a large number of tanks destroyed. The Chadians lost 18 solders and four pickup trucks destroyed. How in the world did they pull it off? ImageImageImageImage

Scotland jusy put forth a motion recommending the suspension of Nigeria from the Commonwealth.

The Nigerian government has repeatedly demonstrated that it is not committed to protecting human rights.

"The Commonwealth should take a clear stand to ensure accountability of.. ImageImage
institutions, freedom of expression and access to information in Nigeria.”

But...its just Scotland right? No cause for alarm right?

Didnt take long for Mr Antonio Guterrez, Secretary General of the UN and Ms Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to chime in
The suspension of Twitter in Nigeria is taking place against the background of repression and harassment of media houses, and journalists who are targeted simply for performing their professional duty.”

Watching President Buhari's hard-core speech, when he talked about his civil war experience and warned trouble makers in the country that the picnic was over, i felt the steel and resolve in his voice. It was uncharacteristic of our soft spoken President. Image
For long Buhari's soft spoken nature was seen as a sign of weakness by Nigerians. He was ridiculed and insulted at every turn. An entire new industry was created to make a caricature of the President. We had the likes of Sahara Reporters opening stoking the flames of civil war
..we had others calling for sanctions against Nigerians. Others were vandalizing newly built rail infrastructure because it represented something they resented with a passion. ImageImageImageImage

People must complain. No matter what lol. On a serious note. It is possible Nigeria will not see any full scale conventional war in the traditional sense, but will have to endure conflicts where a mixture of conventional and guerrilla warfare tactics and operations are employed. ImageImageImageImage
I mean..look at the threats we face today, (Boko Haram/ Pirates)they are assymetric in nature, its no rocket science the emphasis on purpose built weapons systems with emphasis on intelligence gathering, mobility and speed.
As the army once said give us intelligence, firepower, mobility and the ability to manoeuvre and we will give you the enemy. So i see absolutely nothing wrong in the government's emphasis on aquiring ISR platforms and creating intelligence gathering institutions.

AC-130 Sceptre gunship. One of the aircraft deployed in the rescue operation for the 27 year old Philip Walton in Nigeria
The raid also included the extremely long distance movement of forces via multiple C-17A Globemaster III transport planes and the employment of both CV-22B Osprey tilt-rotors and MC-130 planes, AC-130 gunships and aerial refueling tankers.
Wondering how the U.S could deploy such an incredible amount of firepower to rescue just one man? Yet for six years have done nothing of such against ISWAP in Lake Chad?

Nigerians are quick to berate the military over its inability to stamp out bandits from forests. The sheer size of these forests are mind boggling . So vast and spread out, bandits and terrorists have found them a haven to unleash mayhem on Nigerians.
Lets start with KAMUKU and KUYAMBANA forests. The mention of these two forest creates a sense fear, being the major fortresses for bandits in the northwest. These two forests as some of the most dangerous in Nigeria and are often compared to the Sambisa forest in the northeast.
Kamuku forest alone extends to Birnin Gwari, Chikun, Kajuru and Kiwa local government areas of Kaduna State and shares boundary with Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi and Niger states. Kamuku and Kuyambana forests adjoin the Kamuku Park located adjacent to the Kuyambana Games Reserve.
