#COVID#Immunity#Vaccination#AntibodyTitres are not necessarily an indicator of COVID immunity. A lot of people are posting messages worried about not demonstrating antibodies post-vaccination. This is a myth that needs to be addressed. Follow this thread......
There are various types of antibody tests, directed against specific components of the virus. Just bcoz antibody to 1 component is absent, doesn't imply lack of the immunity, coz we may have other COVID neutralising antibodies we haven't been tested for!
+ there is something called cell-mediated immunity which doesn’t show up in antibody tests. Moreover, antibodies may be present, in memory cells in the bone marrow and not in the circulating blood. They may only be recruited to fight when exposed to the virus!
Remember that 80% of normal population who have never been exposed to COVID or vaccinated, are asymptomatic even if infected = COVID immune. Lot of people who have severe infection too, may not show (though they usually do) antibodies. That doesn’t mean they are not immune.
In fact, the majority (80%) of us do not need the vaccine! So why do we need to get vaccinated? And: Because we do not know if we are in the majority or minority, + to protect our loved ones who may be in the minority (develop severe symptoms due to lack of immunity).
It is proven that people with mild/ asymptomatic COVID only generate mild antibody responses vs people with severe COVID (develop high titres). This is conclusive proof that high antibody titres are not required to fight COVID!! #BustTheMyth#COVID#IMMUNITY#Antibody
The efficacy of vaccines will only be known in large population studies looking at moderate-severe infection rates in vaccinated vs unvaccinated - these studies have been done and the results do show that vaccines work.
