Provincial update #COVID19 in South Africa πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦

Here's a look at the key metrics of case incidence and test positivity rate per province in South Africa πŸ“Š

Quite a lot going on between the provinces, so I'll make this a thread πŸ‘‡
Let's start with good news!

Northern Cape and Free State showing promising signs of a decline. Both are still at very high case incidence rates,so certainly not out of the woods yet πŸ“‰

NC case incidence rose up to 1.5 times previous peak.
FS went up to 90% of 2nd wave's peak πŸŒ„
Gauteng is most concerning at the moment 🚩

Average of 2,531 cases/day over the past week; 52% of total cases in SA ⬆️

Cases in GP currently doubling every 2 weeks πŸ“ˆ

Hospital admissions also increasing, up +30% week-on-week. More deaths being reported now too ⚠️
Western Cape cases starting to increase faster now too! 401 cases/day over past week, up 31% week-on-week. Case incidence up to 12% of it's 2nd wave peak πŸ“ˆ

Mpumalanga also rising, cases up 19% compared to a week ago. Case incidence now up to 19% of it's previous peak πŸ“ˆ
Limpopo, Eastern Cape, and KwaZulu Natal still at low case incidence rates, however all are increasing sharply ⬆️

Limpopo most concerning of these, with cases up 81% week-on-week 🚩

Eastern Cape up 41% and KwaZulu Natal up 26% πŸ“ˆ
Test positivity rates per province in South Africa confirm the trend in cases shown above πŸ“Š

NC down slightly but still high at 22% πŸ“‰
FS, NW, GP, MP, and LP all above 10% 🚩
WC above 5% and EC approaching 5% πŸ“ˆ

β€’ Test positivity rate 0% ➑️
β€’ Hospitalisations +9% ⬆️

Thread to follow.. πŸ“Š
By province, NC and FS continue to increase further:
β€’ NC incidence rate +60% or doubling every 10 days. Case incidence at 64% of its 2nd wave peak
β€’ FS +23% week-on-week. Case incidence at 41% of its 2nd wave peak
β€’ All other provinces stable with curves flat-lining this week
Rate of testing up +7% to ~29k tests per day over the past week. Nationally, the increase is testing has kept up with the increase in the rate of infections this week

Time for our Sunday update of #COVID19 in SAπŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦

Clear signs of an "Easter wave" (on cue), driven by a resurgence in 3 of the smaller provinces: NC, FS and NW βš οΈπŸ“ˆ

β€’ Cases +35% ⬆️
β€’ Tests +19% ⬆️
β€’ Test positivity rate +14% ⬆️
β€’ Hospitalisations +2% ⬆️
β€’ Deaths +51% ⬆️
Confirmed #COVID19 cases up in all 9 provinces this week, but 3 are of particular concern atm:
β€’ NC +104% and incidence rate at 40% of its 2nd wave peak = 3rd wave/resurgence of 2nd wave
β€’ FS +63% and incidence rate now at 33% of its 2nd wave peak = start of 3rd wave
β€’ NW +57%
Trends in test positivity rates per province confirms the increase in infection rates in NC, FS and NW, with positivity rate in MP also of concern:
