the benefits of in-person meetings aren't going to be as big as some people remember and the time they waste getting there will lead to massive resentment
this will lead to people questioning WTF they are doing traveling 2H to and back from a meeting that is 30 minutes long
flying overnight for a 30-minute meeting? finished
some people think there will be a pullback to the norm
but that assumes both parties want this
they won't
"well that's the price we pay for collaboration"
you mean that thing that has continued remotely during a global pandemic, which everyone was forced into overnight with no processes in place to make it work?
office culture is a myth
it's familiar, some people find it comfortable, but it no longer serves the purpose it was required for
every generation going forward grew up learning and communicating virtually
50%+ of Millenials would rather quit than go back to an office
the discourse around this is misleading
offices are bad places to do work
offices are good places to socialize and the best place to pad out an 8H day where you feel busy
the people who do work don't want to be there
for the last decade at least, people come into the office earlier and stay late to get work done
they know that little gets done during the workday
with constant meeting, constant distraction, constant disruptions, doing great work is hard
remote work is about empowering the people who do work to produce the best work of their lives
no need to waste 4 years of your life commuting to an office over the course of your career
then you get the old: "well what about human connection?"
remote work is better for human connection, I can choose who I spend time with, I can live closer to friends and family
"but you should be working!"
you just said the office was about socializing?
office nostalgia is a thing
office work has been fetishized over the last 15 months as people want to escape their homes
but people don't want the office, they want to hug their parents, to travel, to go to nightclubs again, eat in restaurants with friends
open-plan offices are distraction factories
companies continue to elongate the work day in order to maximize productivity without realizing they are causing many of the problems people face
remote work isn't perfect
not everyone has the right situation to work from home
but let's remember: REMOTE WORK DOES NOT MEAN WORK FROM HOME
remote work means work from anywhere
wherever you do your best work, do it there
whenever you do your best work, do it then
remote work is about democratizing access to opportunity for everyone
the office has been great for some people: louder, more gregarious folks who dominate meetings and drink with the right crowd after work
remote is better for almost everyone else
single parents
carers for others
anyone with health conditions or impairments
for many people the office is difficult if not impossible
the data on women falling out the workplace during the pandemic is horrific
remote work can help
remote companies should be the most diverse, inclusive and accessible organizations in history
will they be? that responsibility rests on the shoulders of every leader in this space
there's a lot of work to be done
but there's no going back
talent knows that remote work works and people will leave companies who try to pull the wool over their eyes
companies that go back to the office full-time lose to remote-first companies rapidly
talent has the power

Physical retail is no longer economically viable because eCommerce is more convenient, cheaper, and it offers far more flexibility, control, and choice.
7 reasons why Remote Work will lead to a higher quality of life for millions of people
[ a thread ]💻🏠🌍
❤️ Closer Relationships: The office leads to shallow superficial relationships that lack depth & breadth with inane interactions to pad out 8H days
More time with the people you care about most allows you to forge deeper bonds and have the human connection 'social animals' need
⚖️ Diversity Equality Inclusion: Whether you're a single parent, caring for another person, or have a health condition or impairment that makes the office impossible, access to opportunity should be universal
Few things are as important as remote work to help ensure that it is
