... look at the doctrine table, those phase I principles of understand your users, their needs, the components involved etc.

... it's a bit like data, you become data driven BEFORE you consider investing a truck load of money in some data lake. Those phase I principles are mostly about understanding your landscape. You should always do this BEFORE taking action.

Me : It's like behaviours of leaderless leadership and non hierarchical structures ... you can't just copy those behaviours (i.e. wake up and shout "Let's be Haier") without the basic principles in place. If you don't have the principles then they can be harmful.

... I see this all the time, execs suddenly go - let's be agile or organise like spotify or build a data lake or cloud first - these are nice, easy slogans to grab hold off but if you don't have basic principles in place then it might not go so well for you.

Me : No. They'll just go "let's be agile or organise like spotify or build a data lake or cloud first" ... it's easier to hope that technology will save you. It's how we end up with companies spending $400M on a data lake or $1.2Bn building their "own" cloud.

Me : You're assuming these companies have a role in the future. Evolution has a way of dealing with this.
