We are sharing our deep condolences to the Afzaal and Salman families, their surviving child, the Muslim community in London, ON, and the broader Muslim community across Canada. #OurLondonFamily #StopIslamophobia
Full statement: iclmg.ca/london-attack-…
The heinous, hate-based and shocking attack on Sunday night shakes us to the core and is a reminder of how much we must continue to do to fight Islamophobia and white supremacy in Canada. #OurLondonFamily #StopIslamophobia
In our work on the impacts of anti-terrorism laws and policies, from the War on Terror, to security certificates, to profiling at the border, to surveillance in the community and on campuses, we see how systemic racism serves to continue the targeting of Muslim Canadians.
We also see how this problematic approach helps feed the fear, hatred, xenophobia and Islamophobia that lead to attacks like we have seen in London. #OurLondonFamily #StopIslamophobia
The federal government has pledged to address white supremacist and hate-based violence, but action has been slow to come. Outside of gov't, other major political parties have opposed action on systemic racism & the recognition that Islamophobia is a real threat. #OurLondonFamily
We support the urgent call from the @NCCM, a long-standing member of our coalition, for a National Action Summit on Islamophobia: nccm.ca/london #OurLondonFamily #StopIslamophobia
We also encourage everyone to show their support of the Muslim community & their opposition to Islamophobia by attending the outdoor vigils being organized across the country (all while respecting the appropriate public health measures like masking and social distancing).
Individuals can also support the surviving child orphaned in this attack by donating here: launchgood.com/campaign/londo…. #OurLondonFamily #StopIslamophobia

The Privacy Commissioner of Canada @PrivacyPrivee has found that the @rcmpgrcpolice broke privacy laws in their use of Clearview AI #facialrecognition technology: priv.gc.ca/en/opc-news/ne… #surveillance (1/12)
“The use of FRT by the RCMP to search through massive repositories of Canadians who are innocent of any suspicion of crime presents a serious violation of privacy,” Commissioner Daniel Therrien says. (2/12)
“A government institution cannot collect personal information from a third party agent if that third party agent collected the information unlawfully.” (bear in ming that the OPC found Clearview AI's activities unlawful in an earlier report) (3/12)
