My #sanghified, #Bhakt-riddled NRI doctors group is an amusing place. In response to my columns on India's vaccine policy reversals some one posted this message aboput how Western Media are always negative aboput India:
I put the group right by doing a quick search. I posted a CNN story edition.cnn.com/2021/03/07/eur…

You may have missed this bit of genius:
Under the heading,
Conflict of Interest:, the ICMR/Bharat Biotech team wrote:
"Authors do not have a conflict of interest among themselves."
I comment on this in
science.thewire.in/the-sciences/n…
This is like the story:
6 year old, "Mummy, what is sex?"
Mum (all flustered), "you'll have to ask your dad... why do you want to know?"
6 yr old, "We got this form to fill out and after Name, and Date of Birth ( I can write my name and I know my birthday) it says,
Sex:"
I am taking a screenshot before they twig to it and amend it. Also to defend myself against any accusation that I am making it up. This is from the pdf file here: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Bharat Biotech attacking reports and papers by other researchers is bad form and dangerous for its own good name. They should focus on the integrity of their own research efforts and leave it to independent scientists to critique both their own and others' research.
@BharatBiotech is not in competition with other vaccines. #Covaxin does need to to produce more antibodies than #Covishield to be a successful product. Covaxin needs merely to produce enough of an immune response to be protective against SARS-Cov2.
@BharatBiotech would do better to focus on publishing their much delayed Phase-3 trial data - now promised for July - with genome-sequenced evidence in respect of delta variant. This is not a zero sum game.

Fact-checking the PM's Speech on 7 June 2021.
1. "In past decades India depended on western largesse to get its vaccines. Only after the rich West had met the needs of its population would India start"
This is debunked here: thehindu.com/news/national/…
2. "The coverage in India's vaccination programme in 2014 was a mere 60%." I question this claim in my @newslaundry column here: newslaundry.com/2021/06/08/are…
Specifically, I draw on data presented in a 2016 paper in Bulletin of the World Health Organisation.

I've written a column for @newslaundry on the change in Covid vaccine policy announced by the prime Minister when he addressed the nation at 5 pm yesterday, 7 June.
Look out for it in the morning
Here is my commentary on the vaccine policy reversal. It is welcome, if only a partial, roll-back of a flawed policy. My thanks to @mehrajdlone of @newslaundry

I posted my @newslaundry column on the Modi u-turn on this NRI medical alumni group of docs and what do I get. This: Image

#PMaddress, live tweeting and translation:
India affected much as rest of world
Worst pandemic since 100 years
Modern world has not seen or experienced such a crisis
But India has fought back. testing, PPE, labs covid wards, new health infratructue created
Built so many oxygen plants
Never experienced such a demand for oxygen
Oxygen trians, air force planes, navy ships. raised production 10-fold.
have acquired equipment from all over the world.
imported medicines from all over
left no stone unturned
Lots of military references
Covid protocol has been our biggest weapon
vaccines are our greatest #kavach = armour
imagine what would have been the sit if India had not been such a big vaccine producer.
