Look, I get it. Conservative governments don't like spending money. They like "making investments". Fine. But for the love of God, how can you not see what happens when you invest in people?
Do you not realize how much money in our health system is spent treating people that are unhoused, and how much could be saved by investing in supportive housing?
Do you know how much an ambulance ride and ER visit costs to treat someone who's had an overdose, when we could instead invest in supervised consumption sites and prevent those overdoses from happening in the first place?
Can you not see how much it costs the economy when people cannot access timely mental health treatment? Imagine if we actually invested in mental health resources and allowed people suffering to get the help they need and flourish.
Are you truly oblivious to how many women are unable to work and contribute their tax dollars because they can't access affordable childcare? Invest in that! Just think of the latent productivity (and revenue) we could unleash.
But no. Instead, we piss away billions of dollars on corporate tax cuts and doomed pipeline investments because we refuse to see that it's possible to invest in things that don't have an accounting department.
You cannot call yourself fiscally responsible while you continually ignore the greatest investment opportunities we have. Wake the hell up and start spending money on things that actually matter.
