Want to focus throughout the day? Then journal in Roam!

Interstitial journaling is a technique where you write between tasks, to offload what's on your mind and prime yourself for the next task.

I've created a nifty SmartBlock to prompt you. Code in next tweet.
The first SmartBlock you need contains the journaling template:

- #42SmartBlock Meta.IJ
- <%TIME%>
- I've done::
- <%CURSOR%>
- I'll do::
-
- I want::
-
- {{New entry:42SmartBlock:Meta.IJ}}
The second SmartBlock is the one you call onto your Daily Notes page once day, organizing all entries under [[Interstitial journal]]:

- #42SmartBlock Interstitial journal
- [[Interstitial Journal]]
- {{New entry:42SmartBlock:Meta.IJ}}
You can read more about this SmartBlock in the official SmartBlock repository:

Want to learn how to @RoamResearch?
Check out the (free) RoamStack starter course!

I know you don't need yet another course that overloads you with Roam's features. You first need to get used to networked thinking.

🧵 A thread with lessons 👇
Roam isn't a hierarchical note-taking app. The smallest bit of knowledge in Roam is the block, which makes it perfect to link.

Let's start with an overview:

Logging into Roam for the first time could be confusing.

The Daily Notes page is powerful feature, but you first need to understand its usefulness:

Do you use Roam to draft tweets?

Then @andyga0's Mercury plugin is a must-have.

It gives you:
• A character counter;
• The possibility to embed images;
• A way to directly publish from Roam!

A short thread on how to use it + download link 👇
Mercury is a Chrome plugin, but it also works in Vivaldi and Brave browsers.

Download it here:
chrome.google.com/webstore/detai…
After installing Mercury and logging into Twitter, you get the following options:

• Set the parent tag to activate 'Mercury blocks';
• Show/hide the character counter;
• Turn tweet receipts on/off;
• Set tweet receipt template. Image

We're big fans of Roam42's new SmartBlocks feature.

Created by @roamhacker, we finally have a way to automate more of our workflows in @RoamResearch.

🧵 A thread with the best resources to get started.
SmartBlocks currently only works in the beta version of Roam42.

While a test version, it's very stable and well worth getting for the SmartBlocks feature. See here for the installation instructions:
roamresearch.com/#/app/roamhack…
There's written documentation about SmartBlocks in the Roam42 help database.

It'll help you understand the philosophy behind the block-type and how to get started creating your own blocks.

On Tuesday, we hosted the first-ever Roaman Journals Summit.

Four panelists shared their journaling practice and how it has helped them. Then, they took questions from the 155 live attendees.

A thread with the key takeaways and link to the recording 👇
The four panelists and their topics were:

@tracyplaces about our three selves.
@Jeanvaljean689 about journaling for mental health.
@rroudt about philosophical journaling.
@brandontoner about atomic journaling.

Full recording:
The summit was kicked off by @rroudt, who introduced the event's objectives:

• Show how Roam can be a tool for results-oriented journaling.
• Offer specific and simple actions that help newcomers and power users of Roam alike.
• Answer questions from the community.
