Me: "I work at POLITICO, I'm the cannabis reporter."

@BernieSanders: "You're the cannabis reporter?"

Me: "I'm the cannabis reporter."

Sanders: "Are you stoned right now?"

Me: "I am not stoned right now."
Sanders: "Is that a requirement to be...?"

Me: "It's actually not."
Okay okay — by popular demand, here is the audio...

Annual reminder from @GavinBade and I that #cannabis is the nation’s most energy-intensive crop and that energy use — by indoor cannabis cultivation facilities, especially — is only going to grow now that all these NE states (NY, NJ, etc) have legalized. politico.com/newsletters/po…
Thanks @tweyant @renurayasam and the #POLITICOnightly team for having us!
The facts on indoor vs outdoor cultivation are just 🤯.

An indoor grow, on avg, consumes 1.27 kWh per cannabis gram, according to New Frontier Data.

Growing weed outdoors uses 0.07 kWh per gram — 18 times less.

Journalists: don’t do this.

Don’t cite others’ reporting from four months ago as something new, just to get clicks. Especially if you cite them but don’t link them. It’s a dick move, and the reporters you are jilting lose respect for you (if that’s something you care about).
No reporter is perfect (plz don’t assume I am), but there’s accidentally overlooking something... and then there’s blatantly leaving it out.
Oh by the way here’s the original article: politico.com/news/2020/11/0…

Ok all, the New Mexico Senate is here for the #cannabis vote. We're looking at the final 100 feet of the marathon here — lets see what happens. Watch live: sg001-harmony.sliq.net/00293/Harmony/…
If you're just joining us, this bill passed the House earlier today — it's all down to the Senate vote. The Senate was been the primary hurdle in 2020 and again has been this year.
GOP Sen @CliffPirtle whose alternate legislation failed earlier today calls the bill "one of the most horribly written pieces of legislation I've ever read" and says it's incredibly partisan — though he was told by the Governor that the bill would be bipartisan.

Sen. Candelaria just called out the legislative process for being racist against Ultra Health — the largest medical grower in NM, which has advocated for no caps on plant count.

Chairman @RepMcGovern begins by saying it's a historic day, because the rules committee is addressing marijuana reform. #cannabisnews
GOP Rep. Rob Woodall says that if we refuse to enforce federal laws, we should repeal those laws.

Adds though that he has letters from AAA and the Surgeon General saying there are still worries about fully reforming marijuana reform.

The House Rules Committee hearing on the #MOREAct (the marijuana policy reform bill) will start at 1pm. There are 5 amendments submitted for consideration.

Some are administrative: clarifying SBA language and allowing DOT and Coast Guard to drug test. [1/]
.@RepDanBishop's amendment would not allow the MORE Act be enacted until DOT developed a way to test if drivers impaired by marijuana use — the research for that is already underway, and could take years longer. The amendment gives the DOT 180 days. amendments-rules.house.gov/amendments/12.…
Florida @RepMattGaetz's amendment would remove the social equity funding, programs, grants and studies from the bill.

Gaetz has already voted for the MORE Act, in the judiciary committee last year. He's told me that he is more pro-STATES Act, however.
