Lost count of Ilhan Omar’s incidents of antisemitism? That’s because they’re not mistakes. They’re a pattern. She has repeatedly told you who she is. It’s time to believe her.
A thread. 1/
First, Ilhan Omar tweeted that “Israel hypnotizes the world,” invoking the long running antisemitic myth of Jewish hypnosis. People called her out, and she half apologized: forward.com/fast-forward/4…
Second, Ilhan Omar claimed that US politicians were being bribed by Jews to support Israel, invoking another antisemitic trope. People called her out, and she half apologized again: haaretz.com/us-news/ilhan-…
Shortly after these first two incidents, Ilhan Omar invoked the “dual loyalties” antisemitic smear, claiming that US Jewish “influencers” have dual loyalties to Israel. People called her out, and she half apologized again: vox.com/policy-and-pol…
That same year, Ilhan Omar (along with Rashida Tlaib) shared a cartoon from a notorious winner of Iran’s “Holocaust cartoon contest.” People called her out, and she half apologized again. forward.com/fast-forward/4…
Worst of all, Ilhan Omar partnered with an infamous known antisemitic organization that publishes blood libel—claims that Jews use Christian children’s blood in matzah—and neo-Nazi antisemitic treatises. I can’t find an apology from her for this at all: forward.com/fast-forward/4…
That brings us to this week, when Ilhan Omar compared the US and Israel to terrorist regimes. She has thus far doubled down and claimed to be a victim after she was called out by Jewish democrats and democratic leadership: amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/j…
This pattern of behavior suggests that after initial half hearted defensive apologies proved successful in removing herself from scandal, Ilhan Omar has become more bold in her antisemitism. The only lesson she has learned is she can get away with it.
There must be accountability for hate in all its forms. Ilhan Omar—as a Black Muslim—deserves to live in a county where her elected leaders do not attack or discriminate against her based on her race or religion, or promulgate hateful offensive stereotypes. Jews deserve the same.
Ilhan Omar’s status as a target of irrational vile hate does not give her license to be hateful to a smaller minority group she has decided to blame and otherise. This is wrong. It is also wrong for her “progressive” allies to repeatedly defend and embolden her hateful comments.
In a time of an unprecedented ongoing wave of antisemitic violence in the US, Jews are seeing exactly who is speaking out, who is staying silent, and who is exuding and defending antisemitism. Far too many among my fellow democrats are silent. It’s disheartening and frightening.
If we, as democrats, cannot stand against hatefulness on our own side, we lose all moral authority to stand against hatefulness on the Republican side. Silence is complicity.

Ilhan Omar partnered with an org notorious for blood libel. The org published an article criticizing President Obama for hosting a Passover Seder at the White House because “Jews use the blood of Christians” in matzah. Why was she not censured? How is this different from QAnon?
Homemade Tantanmen with Iberian pork, fresh ramen noodles, spinach and chard, and loads of chili oil and chili paste
Recipe here. I didn’t make many modifications except using Iberian pork and adding extra garlic and chili paste/chili oil. thewoksoflife.com/tan-tan-ramen/
The specialty ingredient, Sichuan Doubanjiang—a delicious fermented chili bean paste—was a bit hard to find at the Asian market because they’re not necessarily translated on the bottles/signs but just ask someone for help. It’s common. Or you can order it at Amazon at a markup
What is ironic is AOC endorsed Bernie—whose immigration policy is actually is far right of Biden and Harris. Up til 2016, Bernie consistently claimed that we would have to close our borders to increase wages and maligned migrants as “those people” coming here to take “our jobs.”
Bernie began softening some of his racist anti-immigrant rhetoric in 2016 to become more palatable to the far left but he still maintained in 2020 that we needed to build more migrant holding facilities on the border and hold people there long term rather than “catch and release”
How it was for most asylum seekers under President Obama is you would be temporarily held, processed, given notice for an immigration court hearing, and then released into the US. Bernie didn’t like that. His plan was to hold everyone in internment for the months/years
Ok if you’re making hard boiled eggs for bbq this weekend, listen up because I have the secrets to a perfectly cooked and bright yellow egg yolk and easy to peel:
1) Use older eggs. I realize this requires some planning ahead but fresh eggs don’t work as well for hard boiling
2) cover them in at least 2-3 inches of *cold* water in the pot, add a tablespoon of salt, then move them to the burner and bring to a boil
So after AOC’s tear-filled account of hiding in her office and fearing for her life during the QAnon invasion, she voted with republicans against the security bill?
The Justice Dems’ founders have already told us repeatedly who they are and what their mission is. Believe them:
Look, I don’t want to scare anyone but we’re quickly regressing to the “empty shelves” phase of the pandemic. Think about alternative supply sources for groceries and household goods. Some options:
1) Prefer local. This doesn’t necessarily work for everything but think about
going to places like a local bakery for bread and a butcher for meat. Also local markets like Mexican markets and Asian markets. You can support them and also find household staples like rice and TP when the big box stores are sold out.
2) Direct from farms subscription boxes: Moink, Butcher Box, and Crowd Cow are all excellent sources for meat and fish from small and ethical farms. Imperfect Foods is great for produce from local farms. Often your local farmers’ association will have a box program too.
