playing a character who happens to have dark skin isn't the problem. the problem is people who
- rp petplay that is just poorly-disguised sex slavery
- treat xaelas like "exotic animals"
- fetishize darker skin tones
- characterize xaelas as overly aggressive, animalistic

as some of you may know, xaelas are inspired by mongolian culture. i'm not an authority on this subject, so ill not get too deep into it, but i AM aware that many people stereotype them as warmongering animalistic sex fiends (xaelas are one example, see also the Huns in mulan)
this is so deeply uncomfortable and upsetting for reasons i shouldn't have to explain. real mongolian people have to deal with this all the time; ive met friends at college who were the sweetest people in the world. the fact that some ppl would look at them and see this is awful
this is BECAUSE media portrays people this way. and that DOESNT END or stop applying just because you're rping your personal fantasy. we need to think critically about beating your meat to enslaving dark-skinned characters, having them be obsessed with raw meat, be hypersexual
and we REALLY need to understand how hostile and upsetting this makes ffxiv rp community for people of color. again, not my place to comment on that experience. but it is my Responsibility to tell other white ppl to knock this shit off so they don't have to.
look in on YOURSELVES. look good and hard at your characters, at the friends you know, at their characters. consider if they might read as offensive. take the time to develop your characters as people--give them hobbies, deeper backstories, things apart from their sex life
and for the love of god, if you write a storyline that is indistinguishable from real-life narratives of fetishization and slavery... stop!!! cut that shit out!!! because for every other petplay racist person you know, there is another poc quietly staying away for their safety.

i want to add--i am well aware the source material encourages people to (intentionally or not) fall into these stereotypes. i don't think everyone who has done/does some of these things is racist. the Behavior and Writing is the issue. how you React to being told the truth
is ultimately much more telling of your integrity than making a mistake in the first place
when i say "auri rpers" i mean "our community should collectively stand against this unfortunately common issue, not... "every roleplayer is a racist". come on now
