🧵 1/ I felt I had to let few days go out of respect yet once again on sad memorial days like this nobody reached to the bottom of what can truly change. Yes, back on 10th June 1944 Nazi troops massacred 218 innocent civilians at #Distomo. Not the first, not that last act…
2/…of immense brutality. Similar to all gone mad and rogue military forces around the world. Yet the biggest issue is not what Germans did to Greece back then, is what German politicians do to Greece NOW. They refuse to stop selling weapons to Turkey: turkishminute.com/2021/06/11/ger…
3/ They also refuse to increase their defence spending. Germany, a G7 country is still below the 2% NATO spending cap that Greece which required EU financial aid still meets:
4/ Now, let’s do the … MATHS! German GDP is approx 3.3tn Euros. To increase their defence spending to 2% Germany needs 0.5% of GDP, ie approx 16.5bn Euros. Far MORE than the meagre weapon exports to Turkey. And this meagre figure won’t move the dial of their current account:
5/ So, Germany DOES NOT NEED to export weapons to Turkey, they do it by choice. As they choose not to include Greece and Greek foreign affairs minister #Dendias to the #Libya talks where they invite Turkey, one of the instigators of Libya’s issues. greekcitytimes.com/2021/06/04/den…
6/ The same talks that include Turkey which a while ago they curbed part of the weapon exports because of what Turks did to Syria, atrocities and unlawful involvement they copied in Libya 😳 dw.com/en/german-gove…
7/ The above begs the question, if no economic interests are met and only 4 million out of the total 83 million Germans are of Turkish origin, why Germany pursues this disastrous foreign affairs strategy particularly AGAINST another fellow EU member?! 🇪🇺
8/ I believe the answer is because they have no “skin in the game”. No proximity to a Neonazi militarist regime that threatens their independence in a daily basis. If therefore that’s the case until Germany foreign affairs strategy orientates back to aligned EU interests…
9/ The country shouldn’t interfere in Greece’s and Cyprus foreign affairs and should be an obstacle in Greece’s struggle against illegal migration as shrewdly pursued by German MEPs and German NGOs at the moment standing trial in Greece for financial misconduct and espionage.
10/ And it comes down to German citizens and voters themselves to realise and demand from their politicians this historical stance change. If they want to be Europeans and do justice to a horrible past, they should never again allow their foreign affairs to be the servant…
11/… of rogue authoritarian and Neonazi regimes with Turkey being the most obvious example but with Russia and Belarus on the follow. Instead of hiding behind history, try and write the future one on the correct side this time ✌🏻🇪🇺🧵🪡 #nomorepopulism

1/ A workers’ union of your own university spreads #fakenews and supports the outdated lack of civil order in the Greek universities where students and academics suffer from violent attacks, destruction of premises, trafficking of substances and obstructions.
2/ @UniofOxford As emailed already you should declare publicly your opposition to @OxfordUCU racist stance against Greek people and helpless Greek students in particular who suffer as a result of corrupted ideology that portrays itself as a stance representing your university.
3/ @UniofOxford You should publicly denounce the racist and violence provoking views of your member of faculty @atzanakopoulos who in an attempt to justify his political ideology distorts the grim reality at Greek universities and presents the situation so as to serve his case.
