1n Turns out AltNews lost its @factchecknet certification sometime in 2019 & have been subtly misrepresenting their affiliation. Kanchan Kaur, the local IFCN checker has submitted her approval of AltNews’ renewal papers in April 2019. It went nowhere after that. Why? 
2n You can see Kanchan Kaur’s reccomendation of their application. Issue is she claims they are “neutral” based on their web content & had not factored in the tweets of its owners. However this same lady had also rejected @pokersash’s application not based on what his website
3n wrote, but rather what he tweeted. Apparently Ms Kaur who is the dean of @iijnmbangalore, is perfectly comfortable shifting goalposts when it comes to her groupies. Her own bias is of course well known, but it says a lot that @Poynter didn’t take her reccomendation of AltNews
4n seriously and chose not to renew AltNews. Amazingly a person who is not able to discern partisanship in Prateek & POSCO pervert’s tweets, is considered perspicacious enough to run a D grade fly by night journalism institute that doesn’t even have a Wikipedia
5n entry. Equally curious is the fact that @iijnmbangalore Charges about 5 lakes per course - but what exact certificate is offered remains unmentioned. Is it a diploma? A bachelors? A masters? What? Equally curious, that despite her obvious double standards,
6n her “journalism” entirely unknown, her association with some shady Institute with unknown degrees and no Wikipedia entry & her throaty advocacy of altnews being rejected, she remains one of @Poynter & @factchecknet’s point person in India.
7n worryingly the other question here is how did @Twitter @TwitterIndia @manishm & @policy settle on a freelance “fact-checker” who is not accredited to the international fact checking standard - however lax that standard may be? Was it Nepotism? How much do they pay altnews?
