MSF teams on board #GeoBarents have so far identified and treated 40 people with medical vulnerabilities, including fuel burns, dehydration, hypothermia, infected scabies, who need immediate access to specialised healthcare on shore.
All survivors show signs of extreme exhaustion. Upon embarkation, some of the survivors showed reduced reaction, likely to be related to gasoline vapour inhalations, some presented with signs of hypothermia after having been adrift overnight in open air.
There are survivors with chronic conditions that need access to specialised medical services, two people have difficulties walking due to physical impairment or injury, and a pregnant woman who must be granted access to specialised care on shore without delay.
On board #GeoBarents there are also 91 unaccompanied minors, 21 of whom are between the ages of 13 and 15. This transitory environment poses risks and threats to the mental and physical well-being of the children travelling alone.

THREAD: About 900 refugees have been trapped for the last 5 years by the #Australia policy of offshore detention on #Nauru island. Their sole crime being seeking refuge by boat. As a result of these policy, many people attempt suicide or self-harm.
After providing mental health care in #Nauru for the last 11 months, @MSF was asked to cease its activities in 24h because its services were ‘no longer required’. This is totally disgraceful, the mental health situation on the island is devastating.
Our psychiatrists and psychologists have been shocked by the number of people thinking of or attempting suicide, with children as 9 years old saying it is better to die than live with no hope in #Nauru. Many children didn’t eat, drink and could not even walk to the toilet.
