Fantastic community of Indie Teams of all sizes looking for roles to fill. They even have a Discord where you can ask questions on specific posts, and often speak to someone who works at a given studio.
#14: @hadidjahb 's amazing Job Resource that comes with a fantastic guide walking through the general expected hiring process and has useful information on Negotiating Pay.
#15: @JeanLeggett is a Game Dev Job Whisperer and after an hour of her help my entire life changed and I found a dream job in the industry after years of searching.
The struggle won't be forever. Find moments to rest and recharge and try to identify folks who have the job you want and don't be afraid to politely reach out and ask for some of their time.
When you do this, be specific about how that person can be of help to you, and always defer to their schedules and availability.
USE A CALENDAR.
I'm going to repeat that.
USE A CALENDAR.
Set milestones for yourself such as "X amount of Jobs applied to."
Make a spreadsheet so you can log all the positions you're interested in, URLs to the job posting, and at what stage of the process you are at for each application.
Make sub-spreadsheets for each application where you can break down a job post line by line + write out for yourself & as interview prep how you meet the requirements.
It's ok if you don't! List those as an Opportunity to grow and mention that in the interview/cover letter.
WRITE A TWITTER THREAD and pin it to your Bio, Be specific about what your qualities as a person are, the kind of environment you work well in and what your aspirations are.
Twitter makes it easy to share and link that info. People can't help if they don't know you need it.
Throw your resume in a Google Drive folder and then generate a public URL and add a keyboard shortcut in your phone/computer so that you can easily reference and share it. (I do this for hundreds of resources and links)
Ok that's all for now. RT's appreciated!
Btw, here's what I meant about keyboard shortcuts.
They save you so much time.
Adding to this thread folks who volunteer their time and support:
I can't adequately describe how terrifying it is to tweet that as someone who's just moved, been out of work for months, left an abusive relationship and in general has just lived a live on the margins of actual economic survival.
To all my Trans family, I'm sorry it took me this long. To every man that's ever joked about queerness with a hint of violence, I remember you.
